To choose where to buy a particular PC game, compare the same edition’s checkout price in your region, then weigh refund eligibility, regional restrictions, and how you want to access the game. Steam and Epic generally use a two-week-and-under-two-hours refund framework for eligible games; GOG’s voluntary policy allows requests for up to 30 days, including after play, while reserving discretion over individual cases.
How to compare the stores for a specific game
A useful comparison is about the exact product you intend to buy, not a store-wide reputation. Prices and discounts change, and a base game, deluxe edition, or bundle may have different terms or availability.

- Match the edition. Check that each store is selling the same game edition and included content.
- Compare the checkout total. Use your own region and currency, and account for any taxes shown at checkout. Compare at roughly the same time because promotions can change.
- Check the listing and refund terms. Confirm regional availability and product-specific refund eligibility before paying.
- Consider access. For the specific game, check its DRM and offline requirements, and whether you want to use an optional or required client.
The available policy information does not establish a universal cheapest store or determine taxes, live prices, or game-by-game availability. The actual listing and checkout total are decisive.

These are policy descriptions, not guarantees for every product type or jurisdiction. Check the relevant terms and the particular product listing before purchase.

What the time limits mean in practice
Steam and Epic’s standard periods are similar, but eligibility details differ: Epic explicitly relies on product labels and exclusions, while Steam lists distinct rules for other purchase types. GOG’s stated window is longer and includes played products, but the policy is voluntary and discretionary. None of these summaries replaces the full terms for a specific purchase.
Regional pricing and availability
Regional pricing is not a simple measure of how many countries a store supports, and regional availability does not mean every game can be purchased everywhere.

- Epic: Epic says it supports regional pricing in more than 190 countries and over 30 territories. Its developer pricing documentation separately describes support for 43 local currencies and publisher-set custom prices. - GOG: On 3 June 2025, GOG announced Turkish lira support and region-specific pricing updates for Türkiye. Its agreement describes different pricing schemes across catalog titles, so that announcement does not establish uniform local pricing across all games or markets. - Steam: Restrictions are game-specific rather than universal. Check the product page for availability or restrictions in your region; Steam’s regional restriction information explains the issue.
These regional-pricing figures describe storefront or developer support; they do not show which store has the lowest price for a given game. Compare the same edition and local checkout total instead.
DRM, clients, and access after purchase
GOG markets its selection as DRM-free and says its GOG GALAXY client is optional. GOG lists client features including cloud saves, update rollbacks, and achievements. That is GOG’s stated access model; it does not establish that every game sold there behaves identically, or that every Steam or Epic game requires always-online access. Which store should you choose?
- Choose based on price when the same edition is available and you have compared the current checkout total in your region.
- Give refund terms more weight if you are uncertain about a purchase: review the product’s eligibility and the store’s full terms before relying on a refund.
- Favor GOG’s stated model if DRM-free availability and an optional client are priorities, while still checking the specific title’s implementation.
- Check restrictions first if you are buying across regions or giving a game as a gift; availability can vary by title.
The right choice depends on the particular game and what matters to you. No store-wide price winner follows from these policies or regional-support figures.
