On Steam, “Coming Soon” means a game is listed as upcoming, not that it is ready to buy or play. Any date shown is the developer’s current plan, and it can change. To get a launch alert, add the game to your wishlist; Steam says wishlisters at release receive an email and/or mobile push, though delivery may take hours and is not guaranteed to arrive immediately.
What “Coming Soon” means on Steam
A Coming Soon store page lets people see an upcoming game, visit its community hub, follow its progress, and add it to a wishlist. The game is not yet available to purchase or play from that page. Valve requires a new product’s Coming Soon page to be live for at least two weeks before release. Steamworks: Coming Soon and Steamworks: Release Options describe these rules.

Coming Soon does not necessarily mean that the page shows a particular calendar date. Developers choose how specifically to state the release plan; Steam’s Coming Soon guidance points to separate Release Dates documentation for the available display choices. The documentation cited here does not establish a universal time range for the phrase “approximate” or any other less-specific date wording. Steamworks: Coming Soon
How to read an approximate or announced date
Treat a less-specific date as a broader plan, not a fixed promise. Valve says release plans can change and asks developers to keep store information honest and accurate. A displayed date is therefore useful for understanding the developer’s current intent, but it does not guarantee that the game will launch on that day. Steamworks: Release Options

Developers can change a release date if plans change. If the date is within 14 days, Steam says the developer must contact Steam to make the change. Valve advises setting the date as close as possible to the actual release. Steamworks: Release Options
How to get notified when a Steam game launches
- Open the game’s Steam store page.
- Select Add to your wishlist.
- Keep the game on your wishlist through its release if you want Steam’s launch notification.
Steam says users who have a game wishlisted when it releases in Early Access or as a full release receive an email and/or mobile push notification that it is available. If a game moves from Early Access to full release, users who have it wishlisted at that time can receive another email about the transition. Steamworks: Wishlists

Why a launch notification may be delayed or absent
- Email can take time. Steam says wishlist emails may take multiple hours to arrive; the notice is not necessarily sent at the exact moment of release. Steamworks: Wishlists
- Email requires a verified address. Email delivery depends on having a verified email on the account. Account communication preferences can also exclude some message types. Steamworks: Wishlists
- Steam limits repeat wishlist emails. Its documented cooldown is two weeks per app ID, and Steam may extend that interval during high-traffic periods. Steamworks: Wishlists
Steam also documents wishlist alerts for other events, which are separate from a launch notification: a discount alert may be sent when the lowest-priced package is discounted by at least 20% for more than eight hours. A developer may also send a one-time notification when an associated free demo becomes public, within two weeks after the demo’s release. Steamworks: Wishlists

No. Steam says wishlist information can inform visibility, and upcoming lists may be filtered by release date, popularity, tags, or other categories. Store placement is personalized, and there is no minimum wishlist count a game must reach before it can begin appearing. A wishlist is useful for saving a game and getting a release alert, but it does not guarantee a particular discovery placement. Steamworks: Wishlists
