Choose based on where you want to play: Valve’s Steam Frame is built primarily to stream a Steam library from a PC, while Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S are wireless all-in-one headsets with optional PC VR through Quest Link or Air Link. Quest 3 and 3S have published specifications that make their differences easier to compare; the official Steam Frame pages cited here do not establish equivalent display, battery, price, or availability details.
What “Meta Quest” means in this comparison
This comparison covers Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S, not every headset sold under the Quest name. Meta describes both as wireless all-in-one devices and lists PC VR access through Quest Link by cable or Air Link wirelessly. Valve describes Steam Frame as a standalone headset designed primarily for low-latency streaming of a Steam library from a PC, while also supporting standalone VR and non-VR experiences.

Those are different priorities, not a simple wired-versus-wireless split: both manufacturers document wireless PC VR options, but Valve positions streaming as the Frame’s primary use, while Meta positions Quest devices as all-in-one headsets that can also connect to a PC. Valve’s Steamworks documentation and Meta’s device comparison describe those platform roles.
How the official specifications compare
The table separates verified figures from details not established on the official pages cited here. Quest figures are Meta’s published specifications and estimates, not independent measurements. Steam Frame specifications below are limited to what Valve’s cited official pages establish.

Quest 3’s higher per-eye resolution and wider listed field of view distinguish it from Quest 3S on the published figures. Both are listed at 120 Hz. Meta’s battery figures are estimates; actual duration can vary with use. For official Quest specifications, see Meta’s comparison, updated September 30, 2026. For the Steam Frame’s platform role and software details, see Valve’s Steamworks documentation.
Choose Steam Frame if your priority is Steam PC VR
Steam Frame is the more natural fit to consider if your VR library is centered on Steam and you want a headset designed around streaming from a PC. Valve also lists support for standalone VR and non-VR play, plus SteamVR and OpenXR compatibility. Its product page describes standalone play for a growing number of games and points to the Standalone Verified program.

That distinction matters: access to a Steam library does not mean every Steam title can run directly on the headset. Streaming from a PC and running a game on-device are separate modes. Check whether a specific title is intended to run standalone rather than assuming that Steam compatibility alone guarantees it.
Choose Quest 3 or Quest 3S for an all-in-one Quest library
Quest 3 and Quest 3S make more sense to weigh if you want a wireless headset positioned for standalone apps, with the option to use PC VR through Quest Link or Air Link. Meta lists color stereoscopic passthrough on both models; its comparison also lists a depth sensor for Quest 3.

Quest 3
Quest 3 has the higher published per-eye resolution and wider listed field of view of the two Quest models here. Meta specifies continuous IPD adjustment. Those distinctions are relevant if display detail, field of view, and adjustment range are priorities; they do not establish which headset will feel more comfortable to a particular person.
Quest 3S
Quest 3S shares the listed XR2 Gen 2 chipset and 8 GB of memory with Quest 3, but Meta lists lower per-eye resolution, narrower field of view, and three preset IPD settings. Meta’s approximate battery estimate is also longer for 3S. Compare the complete current regional price and configuration before deciding that any one specification makes it the better fit.

Check these details before buying
- Your games and play mode: Identify whether the titles you care about run on-device, require a PC, or are available in the relevant standalone store. For Steam Frame, distinguish streamed PC play from the subset marked for standalone use.
- Comfort and fit: Fit is personal, and the published specifications above do not establish comfort. If possible, try the exact model and check the return policy before purchase.
- Price and local terms: Prices, availability, storage options, bundles, warranty coverage, and return terms vary by region and can change. Confirm them on the live manufacturer or retailer listing; no current Steam Frame price or availability is established by the cited official pages.
- PC setup: If you plan to use PC VR, check the manufacturer’s current setup and compatibility requirements for the specific connection method and games you intend to use.
For additional comparison context, Road to VR’s Steam Frame vs. Quest 3 comparison discusses PC streaming and hardware. Its analysis is the publication’s, rather than a manufacturer specification.
