There is not enough game-specific evidence yet to say whether Boltgun 2 runs better on Steam Deck or Steam Machine. As of October 7, 2026, the full game is scheduled to launch on Steam on October 14, and the cited sources do not establish a Steam Deck compatibility rating or measured performance on either device. The practical choice for now is a portable handheld versus a living-room PC, with any performance comparison still conditional.
What is known about Boltgun 2 on Steam
The development team has announced an October 14, 2026 launch on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version planned for a later date. The team has also announced a free demo ahead of launch and invited players to try it. That announcement does not report a Steam Deck rating or Deck-specific demo performance. Developers describe a campaign with more than 30 levels and 40+ new enemies, along with two playable characters: Ultramarine Malum Caedo and Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath. Those are announced game-content details, not evidence of how the game performs on either device. Boltgun 2 official Steam announcement, September 23, 2026
Steam Deck vs. Steam Machine for Boltgun 2
| Question | Steam Deck | Steam Machine |
|---|---|---|
| Best-established use case | Portable handheld play; Valve describes Deck as a handheld running SteamOS, its Linux-based operating system. Valve Steam Deck booklet, 2022 | Living-room play, based on Valve’s 2026 Steam Machine presentation. |
| Boltgun 2 compatibility status in cited sources | No official Deck rating is established. | No Boltgun 2-specific Machine rating is established. |
| What Valve’s compatibility guidance establishes | Whether the game later receives Deck Verified or Playable status remains to be seen. | Valve says, “All Deck Verified games are Machine Verified.” The statement does not establish the reverse: Machine Verified does not mean Deck Verified. |
| Performance evidence | No game-specific frame-rate, resolution, battery-life, or load-time result is established. | Valve says Machine performance is “6x Steam Deck” and sets “30FPS at 1080p for Verified.” These are general hardware and verification statements, not Boltgun 2 test results. |
Valve’s 2026 presentation also says Machine verification follows the same input expectations as Deck and does not test display resolution or legibility. Its 30 FPS at 1080p target is a verification criterion, not a promise that Boltgun 2 will reach that result on Steam Machine. Valve / Steamworks, Steam Hardware Talk presentation, 2026

Will Boltgun 2 run on Steam Deck?
The cited official sources do not establish that Boltgun 2 is Steam Deck Verified, Playable, or incompatible. SteamDB lists the game as prerelease and Windows-supported, but that is not Valve’s compatibility rating and does not prove that the game cannot run on Deck. SteamDB Boltgun 2 listing, updated October 5, 2026
If Valve later marks Boltgun 2 Deck Verified, Valve’s published rule means it will also be Machine Verified. Until a rating or credible game-specific testing is available, do not treat the original Boltgun’s status—or Valve’s general hardware criteria—as a result for this sequel.
