During Steam’s 2026 Autumn Sale, SteamDB listed 44,048 games priced below US$5 in the United States, according to PC Gamer’s October 1 report. That number was a corrected snapshot, not a permanent count of Steam’s catalog: PC Gamer said its initial estimate was wrong and the updated figure appeared after SteamDB was no longer being heavily accessed.
What the 44,048 figure means
PC Gamer attributed the corrected count to SteamDB’s sale tracker, which can cap displayed prices at $5. The report’s image caption recorded 44,048 games below that threshold; it did not describe an independent count of every listing. The SteamDB US-filtered sale page identifies the $5 price cap, but its captured text view displayed only 100 matching products, not the complete list. That view therefore does not independently confirm the reported total.
The count applies to a sale snapshot, not to all games on Steam at all times. Prices, discounts, and the number of qualifying listings can change. PC Gamer and SteamDB gave October 8, 2026, as the sale’s end date.
How to find games you might actually want
A low price alone does not tell you whether a game suits you. SteamDB provides filters to reduce the list, and PC Gamer recommends narrowing by genre, features, release date, minimum user rating, and minimum review count.

- Start with genre and user tags: look for the kinds of games you enjoy, then use tags to refine the results.
- Set a minimum rating and review count: this can help avoid treating a small number of ratings as strong evidence of broad approval.
- Check release date and features: use these when you want a newer release or need particular gameplay or online features.
- Confirm compatibility: check operating-system and other system filters against the device you plan to play on.
- Choose the right product type and currency: SteamDB exposes product-type and currency filters as well as operating-system, feature, and user-tag controls.
These filters help with discovery; they are not a guarantee of quality. PC Gamer cautioned that a very large pool of inexpensive games will include titles that are not top tier, so use reviews and personal preferences rather than the price threshold as a recommendation.
Does the $5 price apply in every country?
No universal regional price promise is established by this count. The cited SteamDB tracker is explicitly filtered to US dollars. The official Steam storefront appeared in Japanese yen in the regional view accessed for this report, illustrating that displayed prices depend on locale. Check the price shown in your own Steam account or storefront region before buying.

Is there a recommended list of games?
This report does not provide an Autumn Sale shortlist. PC Gamer mentions a list from the earlier Summer Sale, but those previous picks do not establish that the same games are currently discounted. Use Steam’s own discovery tools or the SteamDB filters to browse the current offers, and verify each game’s live price and details on its Steam store page before purchasing.
