Startup doxx.net Hands Network Controls to AI—What That Actually Means

doxx.net says AI helps operate and deploy its private-network infrastructure, while agents can receive API access with read-only or admin tokens. Human technicians still handled reported physical installations, and key security claims have not been independently verified.

doxx.net says its Agentic Defined Networking platform uses AI to manage parts of its private-network infrastructure and lets AI agents interact with a network through an API. That does not mean AI performs every task on its own: the reported system separates client devices, a company-run network mesh and a control plane, while human technicians handled the physical installation work described at launch.

What does it mean for AI to control a network?

In doxx.net’s description, AI is involved in operating and deploying network infrastructure, while agents can be given credentials to make network requests through the company’s API. The phrase “hands the network controls to AI” is therefore best understood as delegated software management—not a claim that an AI independently builds, owns or physically maintains the network.

Founder Barrett Lyon told Network World that the company’s infrastructure management system runs its AI on company hardware. He described the network as having 31 locations at launch and said its internal mesh and scale would be difficult for one person to manage. That location count is Lyon’s description, not an independently verified tally.

How do the client, mesh and control plane fit together?

Network World’s October 2, 2026 report describes three distinct parts. Lyon said the client app is a device, not the control plane; routing, port forwarding and firewall rules are managed in a separate portal.

Part What the report says it does What that means for a user
Client app Acts as a device on the network; it is not the control plane. Installing the app is distinct from managing network-wide settings.
Company-run mesh Connects sites with encryption and runs over IPv4 and IPv6, according to the report. It is the network layer linking participating devices and locations.
Separate control plane Manages routing, port forwarding and firewall rules through a portal. These are examples of settings with operational consequences, so users should understand who or what is authorized to change them.
Agent gateway and API Give an AI agent an identity in the company chat app and a way to make network requests. An agent can be granted network access without being handed the account owner’s master credentials, according to Lyon.

What transports and network features does doxx.net describe?

Network World reports support for WireGuard and custom VPN transports over WebSocket, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), ping, QUIC, Cloudflare and HTTPS. The report also describes a company DNS root containing 196 domains, a company certificate authority, an internally used BGP daemon and an address book that uses cryptographic keys and aliases rather than names, phone numbers or email addresses.

Lyon said mesh devices are not behind NAT or carrier-grade NAT. These are descriptions of the company’s design as reported at launch; they do not establish that every transport works in every country or network environment, or that it defeats censorship. The available reporting does not independently validate the privacy or security properties of these features.

Can AI agents configure a private network?

The reported agent gateway lets an AI agent have an identity in doxx.net’s company chat app. The company says its API can teach an agent to create a network from a configuration URL. That describes a way for an agent to request or perform configuration through the platform; it does not establish which actions are enabled by default or whether every request requires human approval.

What permissions can an agent receive?

Network World reports that administrators can issue read-only or admin tokens. Lyon said tokens can expire or be revoked, and that an administrator can disable gateway access or delete an agent. He emphasized that agents need not receive the master account credentials. These are company-reported controls, not an independent assessment of their implementation or effectiveness.

What settings might be affected?

The report identifies routing, port forwarding and firewall rules as control-plane settings. It does not provide a complete permissions matrix showing exactly which settings a read-only token, an admin token or an API-created agent can change. Before granting an agent access, a prospective customer would need to establish the available scopes, approval workflow, audit logging and recovery process for that deployment.

Did AI deploy doxx.net’s network sites without people?

No. The company said it modeled sites virtually before construction and that its infrastructure management system ordered installations and coordinated shipping and delivery through data-center APIs. Human technicians performed the reported remote “smart hands” installation work. The account describes automation around planning and coordination, alongside human physical work; it does not support saying that AI independently carried out every deployment task.

What should a business verify before relying on it?

The launch reporting establishes what doxx.net and its founder say the platform does, but it does not provide an independent security audit, technical benchmark, customer study or regulator finding. Organizations evaluating the service should request evidence and test the operational details that matter in their own environment.

  • Control and approval: Identify which actions the platform or an agent can perform, whether a person must approve sensitive changes, and how changes can be rolled back.
  • Agent credentials: Confirm token scopes, expiration and revocation behavior, gateway shutdown procedures, and what gets recorded when an agent makes a request.
  • Infrastructure ownership: Establish who controls routing, DNS, certificates and the underlying network, and what happens to those services if an account or provider relationship ends.
  • Compatibility: Check supported devices and transports against the actual countries, networks and user equipment involved; a protocol list alone does not demonstrate availability in a particular location.
  • Data handling and assurance: Ask for logging and data-retention terms, independent security assessments, incident-response details and evidence supporting privacy claims.
  • Service terms: Verify availability, pricing and support commitments directly. The launch reporting does not provide a tested comparison or pricing table.
