Its curriculum covers computing, operating systems, software, networking, the web, and introductory attacks and defenses. This article turns that route into a personal seven-day challenge, with 14 room sessions as a pacing goal—not an official TryHackMe schedule or a promise of job readiness.
Is TryHackMe’s Pre Security path right for someone starting from zero?
Yes. TryHackMe’s Beginner Path identifies Pre Security as suitable for people with no prior cybersecurity experience. The company puts it plainly: “Pre-Security is built for anyone starting from zero, no prior experience in cyber needed.” Learning takes place in the browser, so the official page says no setup is required.

The current Pre Security outline is labeled New 2026 and has seven sections. It develops the technical foundations that make later security topics easier to understand, rather than assuming you already know how computers and networks work.

- Introduction to Cyber Security
- Computer Fundamentals
- Operating Systems Basics
- Software Basics
- Network Fundamentals
- How The Web Works
- Attacks and Defenses
Expect an introduction to computers, initial coding, networking and web basics, and beginner-level attacker and defender perspectives. The outline lists seven curriculum sections; it does not establish an official sequence of 14 rooms.

How to make 14 rooms in seven days a useful challenge
Treat the number as a personal target, not a platform requirement. The official path outline does not prescribe 14 rooms or a seven-day completion window, and the available sources do not give a completion-time estimate for this exact challenge. Room names, order, and availability can change, so choose the current rooms shown on TryHackMe rather than relying on an old walkthrough’s list.
Use this schedule to distribute attention across the path’s seven sections. Each day has two room sessions as a goal; if a section’s current structure does not map neatly to two rooms, keep the learning sequence intact instead of forcing the count.
Rank #2
| Day | Focus | How to use the sessions |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Introduction to Cyber Security | Learn the basic vocabulary and distinguish security roles and perspectives. Write down terms that are new to you. |
| 2 | Computer Fundamentals | Build a mental model of the components and processes computers use. Pause to review concepts that later lessons rely on. |
| 3 | Operating Systems Basics | Get comfortable with the purpose and everyday structure of operating systems. Focus on understanding, not speed. |
| 4 | Software Basics | Connect programs and code to the systems they run on. Keep brief notes on unfamiliar commands or ideas. |
| 5 | Network Fundamentals | Work through how devices communicate and how networking concepts fit together. Revisit definitions that remain unclear. |
| 6 | How The Web Works | Trace the basic pieces involved in using the web and relate them to the networking foundations from Day 5. |
| 7 | Attacks and Defenses | Use the introductory security perspective to connect the week’s foundations to how systems may be attacked and defended. |
These are focus areas drawn from the current curriculum, not official daily assignments. If you do not finish a session, continue the next day rather than racing through material you have not understood. A short note after each room—what you learned, what confused you, and one question to revisit—makes the week more useful than a completion count alone.

What should come after Pre Security?
Cyber Security 101 is the broader next step for learners ready to move from general computing foundations into more security-specific practice. Its official outline includes Linux, Windows and Active Directory, command line, networking, cryptography, exploitation, web hacking, offensive tooling, defensive security, careers, and an OWASP Top 10 (2025) section.

| Path | Starting knowledge | Subject scope | What comes next |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pre Security | Explicitly designed for people with no prior cybersecurity experience. | Computer, operating-system, software, network, web, and introductory attack-and-defense foundations. | TryHackMe encourages learners completing its foundational SEC0 content to progress to SEC1 (Cyber Security 101). |
| Cyber Security 101 | A broader introduction to security practice; it includes foundational topics alongside security tools and methods. | Operating systems, command line, networking, cryptography, exploitation, web hacking, offensive and defensive security, and careers. | It expands into a wider spread of security topics; the cited outline does not specify a single required next path. |
TryHackMe’s SEC0 Training Content describes Pre Security as foundational certification content for complete beginners and encourages progression to SEC1. This gives a natural direction: establish the basics first, then take on a wider security curriculum.
Why older TryHackMe beginner guides may not match the current platform
TryHackMe’s Customer Hub says Complete Beginner and Introduction to Cyber Security were retired on April 2, 2025, with Cyber Security 101 replacing them. It says Pre Security was revamped on February 18, 2026; older versions were labeled legacy during the transition. Progress and certificates from retired paths remain accessible, but the retired paths can no longer be completed. See the path-change notice for the platform’s explanation.

If a guide uses one of those retired path names or shows rooms in an order that no longer appears, use the live path outline as your reference. The changes concern TryHackMe’s learning paths; they do not mean prior learning or saved progress has vanished.
What this seven-day challenge can—and cannot—show
Completing a week of beginner rooms can help you discover whether you enjoy learning about systems and security, and it can give you a first set of concepts to build on. It does not establish professional readiness, guarantee a job, or substitute for continued practice. The official materials describe learning paths and curriculum, not an outcome tied to completing 14 rooms in seven days.

Keep the challenge flexible. If a foundational idea is still confusing, spend time on it before advancing: the later networking, web, and security concepts depend on understanding how the underlying systems work.
