Where Starstone Barrows is and what to check before you go
The expedition is southeast of Everfall. A third-party New World Guide database lists a recommended level of 35, a group size of three, and at least one Azoth Staff in the group. Those are database-listed requirements, not a guarantee of the current activity rules; check the in-game activity screen if its requirements differ.

The route can involve backtracking and several laser hazards. Icy Veins’ walkthrough, last updated September 2, 2024, recommends following the in-game map objective when you are unsure where to go. It describes the expedition’s enemies as Ancients and suggests Strike, Void, or Lightning damage, naming War Hammer and Void Gauntlet as potentially effective options. Treat that as dated specialist advice rather than a current balance guarantee; choose a build your party can use reliably and that can handle spawned enemies.
How to navigate the route and laser hazards
Read lasers as route blockers
Outside the designated laser room, treat a beam as a signal not to proceed along that path. Icy Veins describes touching a laser as an instant kill and warns against trying to bypass these beams without the laser protection. Follow the objective marker to find the intended route instead.
Cross the laser room
The 2024 walkthrough describes this route to the protection font:
- From the room entrance, work to the left and climb over the nearby rock.
- Circle the next gate, cross the small gap, and climb the ledge.
- Follow the lower path and pass beneath a moving laser.
- Jump across the gaps until you reach the protection font.
Activate the font to gain a temporary dome that blocks lasers. Cross the exit beams without attacking, using an ability, or dodge rolling: according to the walkthrough, any of those actions removes the protection. The exact route is guide-based and may be harder to follow if the encounter or terrain has changed.

How to beat Greundgul
Greundgul has two phases. The walkthrough says the encounter begins with a pile of bones that reforms into an armed skeleton when engaged. Keep the group focused on the mechanics rather than continuing to attack the boss through every hazard.

Greundgul’s Bone Spear targets a player and creates skeletons; the guide notes that successive uses bring a growing number of thrown bones. When the bone and its adds appear, deal with them promptly before returning damage to Greundgul. Leaving spawned enemies active makes the next part of the fight harder to manage.

Phase two: avoid the shockwave
In the second phase, Greundgul leaps and slams the sword, sending out a stagger shockwave. Block or dodge-roll through it. Icy Veins advises damage dealers and the healer to stand behind the boss to avoid sweeping attacks. Ranged players should stay close enough to respond quickly when bone spawns need attention.

Starstone also appeared in a historical mutated mash-up with Amrine: Amazon’s October 26, 2022 PTR post described revisiting parts of Amrine and including Simon Grey and Foreman Nakashima. That announcement documents a past update path, not a promise that the mutation is currently available or has particular drops.
Check whether the game and your world are available
Amazon’s January 15, 2026 announcement says New World: Aeternum was delisted and is no longer available to purchase, while previous purchasers can still play and reinstall it. Amazon also announced that the game will be taken offline on January 31, 2027; access will end on every platform after that date. The company said there would be no new content or further server merges during the remainder of the game’s life, while bugs and performance would continue to be monitored.
The official server page listed server conditions on October 4, 2026, across US West, US East, SA East, EU Central, and AP Southeast. A status page can change, and listing possible status labels does not mean every world is online. Check the page shortly before coordinating a party.
