Start with the characters you own, not an inflexible “best team” list. Build a lineup that survives long enough for its primary damage dealer to act, supports that damage plan, and answers the current stage’s threats. Then spend upgrade materials gradually while you confirm skill descriptions, availability, and balance in the live client.

What you should know before building a team
There is no permanently correct roster for every story stage, boss encounter, or player-versus-player matchup. A lineup that looks powerful on a tier list can fail if you do not own the required copies, equipment, or supporting characters. Conversely, a modest team can clear content when its roles, damage pattern, and survivability fit the encounter.
The official game presentation uses four role names in its reward information: Attacker, Ranger, Defender, and Support. The official site also organizes characters into seven themes. Treat those labels as starting points for understanding your account rather than proof that one theme or role is always superior.

Older external guides are useful for explaining concepts, but their rankings can become inaccurate after balance changes. Before investing heavily, open each character’s current profile in your client and check the latest notices and patch notes in the official Hive community.
Claim the seven-day check-in rewards first
The official site advertises a seven-day check-in sequence described as available to all players. Because event schedules and eligibility can change, verify the offer in the live game or on the official site when you begin. The advertised sequence is:
| Day | Advertised reward | How to use it when starting |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Starbits ×1,000 | Keep the currency until you understand which early purchases or summons are available on your account. |
| 2 | SSR Select Ticket: Attacker | Choose a damage dealer whose skills fit the characters you already own. |
| 3 | SSR Select Ticket: Ranger | Look for useful reach, target access, or a damage type your current team lacks. |
| 4 | SSR Select Ticket: Defender | Favor reliable survival tools if your damage dealers are being defeated before acting. |
| 5 | SSR Select Ticket: Support | Choose a support that directly improves your chosen damage plan instead of collecting an unrelated effect. |
| 6 | SSR Plugin Select Ticket | Wait until you know which character and build will remain in your starting lineup before selecting a plugin. |
| 7 | SSR Proxyan Ticket | Use the selector after reviewing your roster and the current stage’s role requirements. |
A selector is most valuable when it closes a specific gap. Do not automatically pick a second copy of a character unless the current skill text shows that duplicates are important for the build you intend to use. The reward page does not establish a universal selection order, so your choices should follow your roster and the content you are trying to clear.

1. Identify the job your team must perform
Before selecting characters, inspect the stage objective and the opponents’ positioning or damage pattern. Ask whether you need to defeat one durable target, remove several weaker targets quickly, reach enemies in the back line, or simply survive long enough to complete a battle. A team designed for a boss can be inefficient in a wave-clearing stage, while an area-damage lineup may struggle to finish a single high-health target.
2. Cover roles before chasing rarity
Begin with at least one dependable source of damage and enough protection or recovery for that attacker to act. Add a second damage option or a utility effect only after you know what is causing failures. A high-rarity character does not replace a missing role if the rest of the lineup cannot keep the team alive or enable its attacks.
3. Choose a damage plan
Decide whether the centerpiece of the lineup is single-target damage, area damage, critical-hit scaling, backline access, or another clearly defined effect shown in the current skill descriptions. Your Support should strengthen that plan through the effects it actually provides. Avoid combining several characters whose bonuses require different conditions unless you have tested that those conditions can be met together.

4. Test the smallest change that can solve the problem
When a stage fails, change one slot or one piece of equipment at a time and retry. This identifies whether the problem is survivability, target access, damage timing, or an unsuitable damage type. Replacing the entire roster at once makes it difficult to learn which investment mattered.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute5. Stop upgrading a character you have outgrown
Use low-cost testing before committing scarce materials. If a character’s current skills do not fit your account or the stages you play, leave them at a functional level and redirect future resources to the lineup that repeatedly clears content. Historical recommendations include compositions that need duplicates or substantial gear; those requirements should be confirmed before you spend.
How to compare the characters you already own
Use the following checklist whenever you are choosing between two possible additions. It deliberately emphasizes account fit over a universal ranking.
| Decision axis | Questions to ask | What a good beginner choice looks like | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copies and investment | Do you already have the character, and does the skill description require extra copies or a specific plugin? | A character that performs its core job at the investment level you can afford. | Some historical builds assume duplicates, high-grade gear, or both. |
| Role coverage | Does the team have enough damage, protection, and support to complete the stage? | A lineup in which every slot has a clear purpose and the main attacker can act. | Four high-damage characters can still fail if opponents defeat them first. |
| Theme or color synergy | Do the characters share a useful theme or color effect in the current client? | A coherent bonus that does not force you to abandon essential survival or utility. | Confirm the exact bonus and current rules rather than relying on an old chart. |
| Target pattern | Does the encounter reward area damage, single-target damage, or access to protected back-line targets? | Damage types that match the enemies you are fighting. | A character praised for one mode may be poor in another. |
| Content fit | Will you use this team for story, a boss, or player-versus-player battles? | A lineup built for the mode you play most often, with a plan for its main failure condition. | Do not treat a PvP recommendation as a story progression requirement. |
Color and theme synergy: useful, but not a substitute for roles
The official site presents seven themes, while a BlueStacks guide discusses same-color “mono” teams as a way to gain synergy. That guide also says Light and Dark units can join teams without a penalty. These points are best treated as a conceptual starting framework, not as a guarantee of current rankings or mechanics; confirm the active rules and bonuses in your client.
A mono-color lineup is sensible when you own several characters that perform complementary jobs. It is not automatically correct when it forces you to remove the only Defender or Support that keeps your team alive. Compare the real effect of the theme bonus with the value of an essential role. If a mixed-color team clears stages more consistently, use the mixed team until your roster expands.
When testing a theme, record three things: whether the bonus is active with your exact number of units, whether Light or Dark characters alter the requirement, and whether the bonus improves the damage plan you selected. Rules can change with patches, so do not copy an old threshold from a video or tier list without checking the current description.

Historical examples—and how to use them safely
Older guides provide examples of different jobs rather than a current “must-pull” list. The following names illustrate how to think about a lineup; verify that each character is available to you, that the skill text has not changed, and that the character still performs the stated function in the live version.
Patricia as an area-damage example
A secondary guide uses Patricia as an example of blue area damage. If your stage contains multiple targets that can be hit efficiently, an area attacker can reduce the time enemies have to act. Check whether the current version’s range, cooldowns, and scaling still support that use before assigning your best gear.
Sia as a backline-threat example
The same guide uses Sia when discussing attacks against backline threats. This type of tool matters when an enemy Support or ranged attacker is causing the failure. Do not select a backline specialist for every stage; if the encounter has no protected backline target, a more direct damage or survival option may be better.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Yuna as a critical-hit synergy example
Yuna is cited as an example of critical-hit synergy. A critical-focused plan is worthwhile only when the team can reliably meet its conditions and the resulting damage is higher than a simpler setup at your current investment. Read the exact conditions and test the complete team rather than assuming that one critical-related skill benefits every attacker equally.
Rayhou as a support example
Rayhou appears in historical examples as a Support. Use that example to evaluate what your own Support contributes: protection, recovery, buffs, debuffs, turn control, or another effect visible in the current skill text. A support slot is successful when it increases the team’s chance of clearing the stage, not merely because the character is highly rated elsewhere.
A progression plan that avoids wasted resources
No cited current source establishes a complete mission-unlock route, universal upgrade order, resource cap, or exact mode-unlock sequence. Avoid guides that present those details as timeless facts unless they match a current official notice or the instructions shown in your client. You can still progress methodically:

- Finish the onboarding tasks you can see in-game. Claim available check-in rewards and read the stated requirements for each task. Event objectives can expire or change.
- Inventory your roster before selecting tickets. Group characters by Attacker, Ranger, Defender, and Support, then note which ones share a theme or color and which ones need special copies or gear.
- Build one functional core. Pick a primary damage dealer, add enough protection for that character to act, and fill the remaining slot with the support or secondary damage effect that addresses your current stage.
- Upgrade only the core first. Concentrate early materials on the characters you use repeatedly. Keep experimental characters at a lower investment until they prove useful in your available content.
- Use stage failures as diagnostics. If the attacker dies before acting, improve protection or recovery. If enemies survive too long, improve the damage plan. If one protected target determines the outcome, add the tool that can reach or disable it.
- Recheck after every patch. Read official notices and patch notes for skill, theme, reward, and stage changes before copying an older build.
This is a decision process, not a claim about a hidden campaign order. The available sources do not verify a specific number of stages, a guaranteed unlock date, or a universal resource schedule.

Why advanced team recommendations can mislead beginners
Historical team recommendations often describe a finished account rather than a starting account. Their performance may depend on duplicate copies, optimized plugins, high-level gear, or several characters that are difficult to obtain together. A beginner who copies the names without the underlying investment can spend resources and still see poor results.
Before following an advanced composition, check:
- Whether every named character is obtainable on your current account and server.
- How many copies the recommended skills or passive effects require.
- Which plugins or gear sets are assumed, and whether you own them.
- Whether the recommendation targets story, a boss, or player-versus-player content.
- Whether the guide has been updated after the latest balance patch.
If any answer is unclear, build the simplest version that covers your roles and test it before spending more. A lower-investment lineup that clears your current content is more useful than an aspirational team you cannot finish.
Use the official Hive community for version-sensitive details
The official Hive community provides guides, tips, deck recommendations, notices, and patch notes. Use those sections to verify current character skills, event rules, and changes to progression. Community posts can still vary in quality, so check the publication date and compare advice with the in-client descriptions.
When two guides disagree, prefer the newest official notice for rules and rewards, then test the proposed lineup in your own account. A personal result from a different investment level or game mode is not evidence that the same team is optimal for you.

Common beginner problems and fixes
“My damage dealer dies before doing anything.”
Replace a redundant damage slot with a Defender or Support, use equipment that improves survivability if available, and check whether the stage focuses attacks on a particular position. The objective is to let the main attacker take meaningful actions, not to maximize the displayed attack stat on every slot.
Best Value
“I cannot defeat groups of enemies quickly.”
Test an area-damage option and remove buffs or protection that allow several enemies to survive. Patricia is a historical example of an area-damage role, but verify the current skill behavior and do not assume that the old example is the best present choice.
“A backline enemy decides every fight.”
Use a character whose current skills can reach, disable, or otherwise answer that target. Sia is cited in older material as a backline-threat example; treat it as a role illustration and confirm the match-up in the live client.
“My mono-color team is weaker than a mixed team.”
Check whether the theme condition is actually active and whether the bonus is worth losing a needed role. The mono-color concept is optional. Keep the mixed lineup if it survives and clears more reliably.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →“A recommended team is impossible to complete.”
Look for duplicate, plugin, and gear assumptions. Substitute a character that performs the same role at your investment level, then revisit the advanced composition after your account has the required pieces.
Spending, platforms, and realistic expectations
The App Store describes the game as free with in-app purchases. You do not need to spend money to apply the team-building framework above, and the existence of a paid option does not establish that a purchase is required for a particular stage. Treat selectors and currency as planning resources: spend them where they solve a demonstrated roster problem rather than chasing every new character.
The supported information describes a digital release distributed through digital platforms; it does not establish a physical edition or a game-specific physical accessory that improves progression. For platform availability and regional differences, rely on the store listing and the official site serving your region.
Bottom line
Build around a clear damage plan, enough protection for that plan to function, and the role or target access required by the stage. Use the advertised seven-day selectors after inspecting your roster, treat mono-color and named-character examples as provisional concepts, and assume that advanced recommendations may require duplicates or gear. For exact rewards, skill changes, and progression rules, the live client and official Hive notices are more reliable than an old tier list.
