Star Wars Zero Company has four listed difficulty settings: Story, Normal, Hard, and Expert. Beskar is not a fifth difficulty in the official four-level list; a preview describes it as a separate, restrictive-save mode. You can adjust the difficulty outside combat, according to the official StarWars.com guide, while squad-member permadeath is a separate optional toggle.
What are the difficulty settings in Star Wars Zero Company?
Electronic Arts lists four player difficulty choices for the US English PC and console versions: Story, Normal, Hard, and Expert. Its accessibility resource does not publish a table of the settings’ specific effects on enemy strength, accuracy, damage, recovery, or other mechanics.

| Normal | One of EA’s four listed difficulty choices. Exact mechanical effects are not stated on EA’s page. |
| Hard | One of EA’s four listed difficulty choices. An Xbox Wire preview writer called it the third-highest of four and found the preview challenging; that is not a complete comparison or a guarantee of how it will feel to every player. |
| Expert | The highest-named choice in EA’s four-level list. Exact mechanical effects are not stated on EA’s page. |
EA also describes guided training missions and on-demand tooltips. The official StarWars.com guide says the game is designed for players with varied experience levels. These onboarding tools may help if turn-based tactics are new to you, but they do not indicate precisely how much easier one setting is than another.

Is Beskar a difficulty setting?
Not in EA’s four-setting list. An Xbox Wire preview writer characterized Beskar as the game’s equivalent of XCOM’s Ironman mode, describing it as preventing reloads of previous saves. Treat that as the preview’s description, not as a complete statement of Beskar’s current rules: the official sources cited here do not establish how it works in every detail or whether it interacts with permadeath, achievements, or other campaign restrictions.

What does permadeath do, and is it part of difficulty?
EA describes squad-member permadeath as an optional on/off setting, separately from its four difficulty choices. StarWars.com also calls permadeath optional. In other words, the sources treat it as a distinct choice rather than a fifth difficulty level. They do not specify all consequences of switching it or its interaction with Beskar.

Can you change difficulty after starting?
StarWars.com says you can adjust the difficulty rating outside combat. Its guide does not say whether changing it affects achievements, campaign restrictions, or Beskar rules, so do not assume those conditions remain unchanged when you switch settings.

- Start with Normal or Story if you are new to turn-based tactics. Guided training and tooltips provide onboarding, but the sources do not prescribe a difficulty for beginners.
- Consider Hard or Expert if you already know tactical games and want to begin with a higher-sounding challenge. The official resource does not quantify the jump between levels.
- Decide on permadeath separately based on your tolerance for lasting squad losses. If restrictive saving appeals to you, investigate Beskar’s in-game description before committing; the cited preview does not confirm all of its current rules.
Why mission challenge labels can be confusing
The StarWars.com guide uses Risky, Dangerous, and Extreme as mission challenge labels. These are not replacements for Story, Normal, Hard, and Expert: EA’s accessibility resource lists the four player difficulty choices separately.
