Star Wars: Galactic Racer makes its single-player campaign more than a sequence of races: it turns each attempt into a run of route choices, event decisions and vehicle upgrades. That structure gives the racing a welcome sense of progression, though its repeated events and lighter story may not suit players looking for a conventional Star Wars adventure.
What the campaign is—and what it is not
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a racing game set in the Galactic League, an unsanctioned circuit in the Outer Rim. Its campaign follows Shade, who pursues glory and revenge while facing champion Kestar Bool, with mechanic Hibi and veteran racer Sebulba among the characters involved. Races use landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders and podracers. Lucasfilm announced a worldwide launch on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The campaign is single-player, but it is not built like a linear story game in which every player follows the same fixed chain of missions. Instead, it borrows the repeat-attempt structure often associated with run-based games: choose a route and events, shape a vehicle build, race, and try again if a tour goes badly. The official Galactic Racer franchise page lists Campaign, Scenario and Arcade modes.

Why the run-based structure makes the races matter
Route choices give a tour a shape
Rather than simply selecting the next race from a fixed list, players navigate a branching event map. Which events they choose affects the route through a tour, giving decisions outside the race a role in how an attempt unfolds. The value is not just variety: choosing a path makes a run feel like a plan that can succeed or unravel.

- COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
- SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
- BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
- BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
- CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.
Upgrades make vehicle choice strategic
Players earn parts and upgrades and can tune a vehicle build to suit their playstyle. That means progress is not solely about mastering a track; players also make choices about what kind of racer they are trying to build. Fuse Games co-founder Matt Webster described that design intent in Lucasfilm’s interview: “We’ve drawn real inspiration from runs-based games so the player will have meaningful, consequential decisions to be making on how they chose their path to become an elite racing pilot — from the vehicle they choose to start with, the upgrade choices they make to create a build that really suits their playstyle and what events they select in determining their path to become champion of the League,” Webster says.
Failure is a reset, not a dead end
Too many crashes can end a tour and send Shade back to start another attempt. Some perks and unlocks carry over, however, so failure does not necessarily erase all progress. PC Gamer’s review describes upgrades earned during a tour and persistent unlocks that can help ease a later run. That creates a useful balance: a poor attempt has a cost, but it can still teach players about routes, builds and events for next time.

What reviewers praise—and where the campaign can falter
Reviews support the appeal of the campaign’s loop, but they do not suggest it works equally well for every player. PC Gamer praised the build possibilities and character interactions, while finding the story’s final payoff disappointing. TechRadar’s reviewer, writing after nearly 30 hours with the PS5 version, highlighted branching routes, replayability and the gradual improvement between attempts; the same review noted repetitive Field Test events, limited depth for Shade and a structure that may frustrate people who mainly want a linear Star Wars story. Game Informer called the campaign the game’s foundation and praised its story, cast and racing roguelite structure, while noting minor frustrations. These are individual critical assessments, not guarantees of how every player will respond.
The trade-off is central to deciding whether the campaign sounds appealing. Repeated runs can make improvement and experimentation satisfying, but repetition is part of the design rather than an accidental detour. And although the campaign has characters and a narrative, the available reviews give reason to temper expectations if story depth and a strong dramatic payoff matter more to you than racing progression.

Can you play Galactic Racer alone or offline?
Yes, the campaign is single-player. The US PlayStation listing says the PS5 version supports one player and that online play is optional; it also says online play requires PS Plus. It lists pausing while offline and DualSense vibration support. Those details are specific to that US PS5 listing, so check the store page for the platform and region you plan to use: PlayStation Store listing.
Creative Bloq reported on October 6, 2026, that the single-player campaign was available through Amazon Luna for Prime members at launch. That is a dated launch-day report, not confirmation of current access or terms; check the service directly before relying on that option. Creative Bloq’s report.
