Galactic Racer is the better fit if you want to master fast vehicles on varied circuits rather than aim weapons at enemy ships. Its campaign asks you to choose events and a path through the Galactic League, while vehicle choice and upgrades let you shape a build around your style. Because repeated crashes can end a tour, progress is not simply a straight story route.

Fuse Games co-founder Matt Webster described the campaign’s design as drawing “real inspiration from runs-based games,” with decisions about starting vehicles, upgrades, and event selection shaping a player’s path to becoming champion of the League. That structure is central to the game’s appeal—and a taste test: players who enjoy adapting between runs may welcome it, while players who want uninterrupted story progress may find it frustrating.

Squadrons is the choice if your Star Wars fantasy is piloting a starfighter in first-person, managing a fight from the cockpit, and coordinating with a squad. Its offering spans a solo campaign and multiplayer modes, including 5v5 Dogfights and Fleet Battles. Lucasfilm creative director Ian Frazier said at the game’s announcement: “We created this game for every Star Wars fan who has ever dreamt about soaring across the galaxy in their favorite starfighter.”

Which Star Wars game should you play?
- Choose Galactic Racer if racing, vehicle handling, route choices, and upgrading between events sound more appealing than space combat—and you are comfortable with a campaign where crashes can force a fresh tour.
- Choose Squadrons if you want first-person starfighter dogfights, multiplayer squadron play, or to investigate its announced VR support for compatible PS4 or PC setups.
- If story is your main priority, weigh the structure carefully. In its October 2026 review, TechRadar recommended Galactic Racer to fans of racing and roguelikes but called the runs-based design a drawback for players primarily seeking the story. That is the reviewer’s judgment, not a universal response.
- Check your platform before buying. Galactic Racer is listed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC; Squadrons launched for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Do not assume a version for one console generation works on another; verify the exact edition in the store for your device.
Check availability and online support
Store stock, regional availability, and online-service status can change. EA says online features for Squadrons may be retired after 30 days’ notice, so check EA’s current product page and the relevant platform store before buying if multiplayer is important to you. For Galactic Racer, confirm current retailer stock and edition details rather than relying on a page framed as preorder information. If considering a physical edition, match it to your platform and region.
