Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If Spotify won’t open, connect, or play songs, start with the least disruptive checks: restart the app, update it, and confirm your connection and Offline mode. Then check Spotify’s service status and device, clear the cache, compare with the web player, and reinstall only if needed. These steps cover common technical and playback problems; a launch failure can have other causes, so no single fix is guaranteed.
1. Restart Spotify
Fully close Spotify—not just minimize it—then open it again. Spotify lists restarting the app as a first quick fix for technical problems. If it still will not open or play, move on rather than repeatedly relaunching it.

2. Check for an update
An outdated app can cause technical problems. Spotify Support says reinstalling guarantees the latest version, but first check for an update directly to avoid the extra setup work.

3. Check your connection and Offline mode
If Spotify says it is offline or songs will not load, first check whether other apps or websites can connect. If they cannot, the issue may be your internet connection rather than Spotify. Try a different Wi-Fi network or switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.

- Desktop: Open the Spotify or File menu and check whether Offline mode is enabled.
Offline mode can leave content unavailable unless it has been downloaded. Shared or public networks may also restrict services, and a desktop firewall can block Spotify. Spotify’s Spotify not playing guidance covers connection and playback checks.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Before changing more settings on your device, check SpotifyStatus and Spotify Community’s Ongoing Issues board for reported service problems. If there is a wider issue, device-level troubleshooting may not resolve it.

5. Check the device
If Spotify works on another device but not the one you are troubleshooting, focus on that device’s software and settings. Spotify’s troubleshooting article recommends checking for at least 250 MB of available memory; this is Spotify’s stated troubleshooting threshold, not a universal device requirement.
- Install available operating-system updates and close apps you are not using.
- On a desktop, check whether firewall settings allow Spotify to connect.
- On Android, if the device has an SD card, try removing it and checking Spotify again.
- Compare with Spotify on another device or in the web player. If it works there, that points toward an issue specific to the original device.
See Spotify Support’s device and playback troubleshooting for additional guidance.

6. Try Spotify’s web player
Open Spotify in a supported browser to compare it with the app. If the web player works while the desktop or mobile app does not, the problem may be limited to the app or device. If the web player also fails, check your connection, network restrictions, and Spotify’s service status.
Spotify recommends updating your browser and trying a private or incognito window. Browser support varies by device and changes over time, so check Spotify’s web player help for current guidance rather than relying on a fixed compatibility list.

7. Clear the cache, then reinstall if necessary
Clear the cache
Spotify includes clearing the cache among its troubleshooting steps for playback and technical issues. Try it if the earlier checks have not helped, but treat it as a troubleshooting attempt—not a guaranteed fix for an app that will not launch. Follow Spotify’s platform-specific troubleshooting instructions.
Reinstall Spotify
If simpler steps fail, reinstall the app using Spotify’s instructions for your platform. Reinstalling is more disruptive than restarting or updating: downloaded music and podcasts must be downloaded again afterward. Spotify’s reinstallation instructions explain the process. If the problem remains, use the further troubleshooting resources linked from Spotify Support’s technical and playback help.
