Spotify says Premium Family members must live with the plan manager and provide the same home address. It also says it does not track members’ locations: “We don’t track your location. We only check your address to verify.” Spotify does not explain the technology it uses to match or confirm an address, so claims that it relies on GPS, IP history, Wi-Fi, or another specific signal are not established by its public help pages.
What Spotify requires from Family members
Spotify describes Premium Family as a plan for people who live together. A person joining must enter the same home address as the plan manager. Accounts remain separate, while the manager pays for and manages the plan. Spotify’s stated eligibility rule is: “You need to be living with the plan manager.”

When Spotify may ask you to verify an address
Spotify says it may request a member’s full address when they join, after the plan manager changes the plan address, or if Spotify cannot confirm a member’s address. The public instructions describe checking the submitted address; they do not detail the system used to confirm that it matches the manager’s address.
How the QR verification request works
Spotify may ask some members to verify in person using a QR code in the mobile app. The manager and member need to be in the same place for the scan, and Spotify says the code changes every few seconds. A requested scan must be completed within seven days.

What happens if verification fails or you miss the deadline
For an email address reverification request, Spotify gives the member seven days to provide the full address. If the verification fails or the deadline passes, the member loses Family access and moves to Spotify Free. Spotify says the member may rejoin that same Family or Duo plan, but cannot join a different Family or Duo plan for 12 months from the verification failure date. Spotify also gives seven days to complete a QR verification request.
What to do if your address will not appear
The selected address must be in the same country where the payment method was issued. If address autocomplete does not find the address, Spotify’s instructions say to enter the full address and select “Find.” If it still does not appear, try selecting the building, street name, or a nearby public space or building. Spotify says not to use another person’s address.

What Spotify has—and has not—said about location data
Spotify Support’s public statement is that it does not track a member’s location and checks the address for verification. Its help pages do not specify whether address matching uses a database, billing data, GPS, IP address, Wi-Fi, or another technical signal. The stated policy supports describing this as address verification, not claiming a particular undisclosed tracking or matching method.
