The file belongs to software associated with Nike PSA Play portable audio players. That software allowed an older Windows computer to communicate with the device and manage its media functions.

Historical indexed copies are identified as 32-bit files. That matters on a modern 64-bit Windows computer: an old 32-bit application normally needs its matching 32-bit DLL in the application’s installation directory or through the original installer.
It is not:
- A current Windows 10 or Windows 11 system DLL
- A Visual C++ Redistributable file
- A DirectX component
- A .NET runtime library
- A modern graphics-driver file
- A file that should automatically be copied into both
System32andSysWOW64
The filename alone does not prove that every copy is genuine. Malware can use the same name, so the file’s origin and the program loading it are important.
What causes the error
The likely causes are:

Repair the owning application and investigate its loader errors |

A Windows update may expose an old compatibility problem, but there is no reliable basis for assuming that a particular Windows update removed spnike.dll.
Fix 1: Identify the application requesting spnike.dll
Start here instead of downloading a replacement file.
Check the error window
Read the title bar and the text around the error. Look for:
- A Diamond or Nike player application name
- A media-transfer utility
- An old setup program
- A startup item
- A device-management program
- A game or unrelated application
If the message appears immediately after plugging in a Nike PSA Play device, the device software is the likely caller.
If it appears during startup:
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Startup apps.
- Disable only the entry clearly associated with Diamond, Nike, or an old portable-media utility.
- Restart Windows.
- If the error disappears, repair or uninstall that application rather than replacing the DLL globally.
Find the program folder
Use Windows Search to look for the executable named in the error. Right-click it and choose Open file location.

If the application folder contains other old Nike, Diamond, or S3 files, that is strong evidence that the folder owns spnike.dll. Restore the complete application from its original installer instead of copying a single DLL into the folder.
Use Process Explorer when the caller is unclear
Microsoft’s Process Explorer can show which process has loaded a DLL.
After downloading it from Microsoft:
- Run Process Explorer as administrator.
- Press
Ctrl+F. - Search for
spnike.dll. - Review the process name and path.
- Right-click the result and choose Properties.
- Record the executable’s folder and publisher information.
- Repair or remove the application that owns that folder.
If no process appears, the error may happen before the DLL loads, or the file may be missing. Use the application name in the dialog and check Windows Event Viewer.

Fix 2: Repair or reinstall Diamond Nike software
This is the most likely definitive fix.
Use Windows repair options
- Press
Windows+I. - Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps.
- Search for Diamond, Nike, S3, or the old media-player software.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
If there is no Repair option:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps.
- Select the program.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it from the original installation CD, verified manufacturer media, or the computer’s original recovery media.
Some older programs are listed only in Control Panel:
- Press
Windows+R. - Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the Diamond Nike-related program.
- Choose Repair if available.
- Otherwise choose Change or Uninstall.
- Restart before reinstalling.
Do not uninstall until you have located the original installer or installation media if the application is difficult to obtain.
Run the installer with compatibility settings
An old installer may not work correctly on Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Right-click the installer.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Start with Windows XP (Service Pack 3).
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Choose Apply, then OK.
- Run the installer.
After installation, apply the same compatibility setting to the installed application, not only to the installer.
If the program installs but the Nike device still does not work, the missing DLL may no longer be the main problem. The associated device driver may not work with modern Windows.

Windows Security may have removed a file because it was suspicious, corrupted, or changed from the expected version. Do not restore a file merely because the filename is spnike.dll.
- Open Start.
- Search for Windows Security.
- Open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
spnike.dllor the Diamond Nike application. - Expand the entry and record the detected path and threat name.
Restore the file only when all of these are true:
- It came from the original application installer or trusted installation media.
- The path matches the application that needs it.
- The file has not been replaced or modified.
- A current security scan does not identify it as malicious.
Microsoft explains the consequences of restoring quarantined items in its Protection History guidance.
Do not add an unverified DLL to Defender exclusions. If Windows Security detects the file again, leave it quarantined and reinstall the complete application from a trusted source.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components
This step is useful when the error began after system-file damage, an interrupted repair, or problems with an old Windows installation. It is not a substitute for reinstalling Diamond Nike software.

Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart.

Microsoft documents this repair sequence in its DISM Windows image repair guidance.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the original application again. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC once. Persistent errors should be investigated through the application installer and Event Viewer rather than by downloading a DLL.
Running SFC and DISM manually can leave you comparing logs and repeating scans without knowing which component changed. Windows XP warning
Modern DISM commands are intended for supported Windows versions and should not be treated as Windows XP instructions. On Windows XP, use the original installation media, System File Checker, Recovery Console, or System Restore appropriate to that installation.
Historical Windows XP inventories show related S3/Diamond media-device files, but the exact Microsoft package that supplied spnike.dll cannot be confirmed. Do not assume a current Windows component can restore it.
Fix 5: Update or reinstall the old device driver
If the DLL error is gone but the Nike player is not detected, check Device Manager.
- Connect the device if Windows recognizes it.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Portable Devices, Universal Serial Bus controllers, and Other devices.
- Look for a warning icon or an unknown device.
- Right-click the device.
- Choose Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Driver Details to see whether the installed driver belongs to the original software.
- Use Update Driver only with a verified driver package.
- If the device is clearly associated with a damaged installation, choose Uninstall device, restart, and reinstall the original Diamond Nike software.
Do not use a random driver package just because its filename resembles the old device software. A restored DLL cannot make an incompatible kernel driver work on modern Windows.

Fix 6: Try compatibility settings or a legacy environment
A 32-bit application can often run on 64-bit Windows, but an old device driver may not.
First, test compatibility mode:
- Right-click the Diamond Nike executable.
- Select Properties.
- Open Compatibility.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Try Windows XP Service Pack 3.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Click Apply, then OK.
- Start the application.
If the application still fails, check whether its installer or driver requires hardware access that modern Windows blocks. Do not force unsigned or incompatible drivers onto your main installation.
For an obsolete device that must still be used, a clean legacy virtual machine or an older compatible Windows computer may be more practical. Keep that environment isolated, use only trusted installation media, and avoid connecting it directly to sensitive accounts or important files.

Usually, no.
Copying a DLL into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 does not identify the application that needs it and can create version conflicts. The correct location is normally the original application directory selected by its installer.

Remember the naming rule on 64-bit Windows:
System32contains 64-bit system components.SysWOW64contains 32-bit compatibility components.
That naming can be confusing, but it does not mean that every 32-bit application DLL belongs in SysWOW64. Application-specific DLLs commonly stay beside the application executable.
Only restore a verified original file to the exact application directory that owns it, and prefer reinstalling the complete program.

Not by default.
regsvr32 works with DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general-purpose command for installing missing DLLs.
Microsoft documents regsvr32 as a tool for registering DLL files as command components in the registry. An ordinary application DLL may not support that process.
If the original application documentation specifically requires registration, run the command from an elevated Command Prompt using the correct path:
regsvr32 "C:PathTospnike.dll"
If Windows reports that DllRegisterServer was not found, the DLL is not self-registering. Do not download another copy and try again. Reinstall the owning application instead.
Never run bulk commands that register every DLL in a Windows directory.
Is spnike.dll related to Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
There is no evidence that spnike.dll is part of the current Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET framework.
Installing a Microsoft runtime can help when the error specifically names a missing runtime dependency, but it is not the direct repair for this file. Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET solely because a DLL error appeared.
If the Diamond Nike installer displays a separate runtime requirement, install only the package named by the original installer and obtain it from Microsoft.

How to verify a suspicious copy
A file with the correct name can still be unsafe.
Check:
- Right-click the file.
- Select Properties.
- Review the General tab for its location and timestamps.
- Open Digital Signatures, if present.
- Check the Details tab for the description and product information.
- Confirm that the path belongs to the Diamond Nike application.
- Scan the file with Windows Security.
The historical identity associated with this file is MDM Device Interface for Nike device, product Diamond Nike, from S3/Diamond Multimedia. Metadata can help identify an old file, but matching a description or file size does not prove safety.

If the problem started after a recent change
Use System Restore if the error began after installing software, removing media tools, or changing system components.
- Press
Windows+R. - Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Select Finish.

If the old software is no longer needed, uninstall it through Settings → Apps → Installed apps or Control Panel → Programs and Features. Removing the obsolete caller is safer than keeping a broken startup entry alive.
Frequently asked questions
Is spnike.dll a Windows system file?
It is a historical application DLL associated with Diamond Nike software. Related files appeared in some old Windows XP media-device installations, but it is not established as a current Windows 10 or Windows 11 system file.

Not normally. spnike.dll is not identified as a Visual C++ runtime file. Install a runtime only when the application separately reports a missing runtime dependency.
Should I register the DLL?
No, unless the original software documentation explicitly requires registration. Most application DLLs do not need regsvr32.
What if the file was quarantined?
Review Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history. Restore it only when its origin is verified and the application installation is trusted. Otherwise, reinstall the complete program.
What if the application works but the Nike player does not?
