Ubisoft has an official Splinter Cell remake in development at Ubisoft Toronto, but it has not confirmed a 2027 release date in the official sources reviewed. The project is a remake of the original game, not an announced sequel or a broader revival of the series.

Is the Splinter Cell remake coming in 2027?

There is no confirmed 2027 launch date. Ubisoft’s announcement and Ubisoft Toronto’s project page describe the remake but give no release window. Calling 2027 the release year would treat an unverified projection as an official date.

Ubisoft announced the project on December 15, 2021, and the studio still lists it as a remake in development. GamesRadar has also reported that Ubisoft confirmed the project remained in development amid layoffs at Ubisoft Toronto; that secondary report does not establish when the game will launch.

What game is Ubisoft remaking?

The announced project is a remake of the original Splinter Cell, the stealth-shooter series Ubisoft dates to 2002 and whose protagonist is Sam Fisher. Ubisoft said it was rebuilding the game from the ground up with its Snowdrop engine, rather than simply remastering the original. Ubisoft’s announcement and Ubisoft Toronto’s project page do not announce a separate new sequel or a slate of additional revived games.

#1 Best Overall
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow - Xbox
  • Incredible real movement and control - you can even shift Sam's weight when preparing him for a split jump between two walls
  • Exciting new moves maximize Sam's lethal fighting skills -- spin out of the shadows and kill silently
  • All-new moves and levels - fight in jungles, on rooftops, on top of(and under) a moving train
  • Advanced AI makes it harder than ever to get past enemies - if you reveal yourself they'll get reinforcements and put on armor
  • Weapons now have secondary functions that can be equipped on the fly - be amazed at the advantage you get from the red dot of the laser sight

What has Ubisoft said about the remake’s design?

Ubisoft Toronto’s stated aim is to preserve the identity of the early games while updating the presentation and selected design elements for contemporary players. Producer Matt West said the team wanted the “spirit of the early games” to remain intact. Creative Director Chris Auty described an intended stealth loop built around observing situations, planning, using gadgets and outsmarting enemies creatively. These were development intentions stated in 2021, not a guarantee of final features.

Linear missions, refreshed presentation

The announcement said the remake would keep a linear structure while updating visuals and some design elements. That points to a reimagining of the original’s focused mission format, not confirmation of an open-world redesign. Ubisoft has not published a detailed feature list establishing exactly how the finished game will handle missions, stealth systems or gadgets.

Is Netflix’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch the game’s comeback?

No. Splinter Cell: Deathwatch is a separate animated adaptation of the game series, not the remake. Netflix’s description names Ubisoft, Derek Kolstad, Sun Creature and Fost in its production information. The existence of the series does not confirm the remake’s schedule or connect it to a new game sequel. Netflix’s Deathwatch page provides information about the adaptation.
