To start the Lighthouse Spider Crab fight in How to Fish, complete the Lighthouse Keeper’s beer exchange and keep the Empty Beer Can he gives you. Equip the can as bait and cast to trigger the encounter. Sidestep the crab’s charge, attack while it is stunned, then collect its remains and return them to the Keeper for the Boat Keys. These steps are reported by game guides; exact timing and hit counts are not established.
What you need before the fight
The encounter route begins at the Lighthouse. First activate the Lighthouse Keeper’s quest and complete the beer exchange. The Keeper returns an Empty Beer Can; hold on to it, because a Spider Crab guide identifies it as the fight trigger. The Steam listing describes How to Fish as a fishing game with quests and boss fights that advance island progression, but it does not document this encounter’s steps.

How to trigger the Spider Crab encounter
- Finish the Lighthouse Keeper’s beer exchange and obtain the Empty Beer Can.
- Equip the empty can as bait.
- Cast to begin the Spider Crab encounter.
This trigger sequence is reported by a secondary encounter guide, rather than the game’s Steam listing.

How to survive the charge and deal damage
- Watch for the crab to commit to a charge.
- Move sideways out of its path rather than staying in front of it.
- Attack during the stun window after the charge.
- Reposition and repeat the pattern when it is ready to charge again.
A separate PC Gamer account also reports landing hits while the crab was dazed. Treat the stun as an opening, not a guaranteed safe period: available reporting does not establish a fixed number of hits, ideal weapon, damage values, or a guaranteed strategy.

How to get the Boat Keys
After defeating the crab, collect its remains and take them back to the Lighthouse Keeper. The encounter guide and PC Gamer both report that handing in the remains awards the Boat Keys, which complete this part of the route.

What is—and is not—established
- The game’s Steam store listing gives an August 20, 2026 release date and describes it as a 1–4 player physics-based fishing simulator. Those are store facts, not Spider Crab-specific mechanics.
- The Empty Beer Can trigger, charge-and-stun combat pattern, remains hand-in, and Boat Keys reward come from secondary guide reporting.
- Exact timing, safe hit counts, weapon rankings, current prices, patch-specific behavior, and solo-versus-co-op differences are not established by the cited encounter reporting.
