SoundScript is a desktop app described by its author, BitProgram, as a single interface for four AI engines: cloud ElevenLabs text-to-speech (TTS) and Gemini language-model tools, plus local Anhad TTS and Nuqta language-model tools. Its design aims to let users choose between cloud services that need API keys and downloaded local models that can run without an internet connection after setup. BitProgram’s account is a build retrospective, not an independent product review or security audit.
What SoundScript is designed to do
SoundScript brings text generation and speech synthesis into one PySide6 desktop interface. The author describes two cloud-backed engines and two local engines, allowing a user to select a route according to internet access, privacy needs, and the intended workflow.

BitProgram says the local options were motivated in part by unreliable internet and client projects where scripts should not be sent to third-party APIs. That is the author’s rationale and description of the app, not a verified assessment of the software’s privacy or security.
How the local engines are described
Anhad: Kokoro-based speech synthesis
BitProgram reports that Anhad is based on Kokoro-82M, an 82-million-parameter model under the Apache-2.0 license, and uses ONNX Runtime for inference. The author gives an approximate model-file size of 340 MB and says it includes 15 US and UK English voices and runs on a CPU. These are figures in the 2026 article, not independently checked specifications or a guarantee of performance on every computer.

Nuqta: Qwen through llama.cpp
Nuqta is described as Qwen served through llama.cpp, using model files ranging from 400 MB to 2.5 GB. BitProgram presents the different sizes as a quality-versus-speed choice, but provides no measured speed results, hardware baseline, or quality scoring. Actual results should therefore be evaluated on the model, device, and task a user plans to use.
Why a shared audio cache matters
The author describes a cache that sits above the local and cloud synthesis backends. Before asking an engine to generate speech, the app calculates a SHA-256 hash from the text, voice ID, and settings for stability, similarity, and speed, then checks for a matching local MP3 file. If a match exists, the stored audio can be reused instead of requesting another synthesis.

This approach can avoid repeating generation for an identical text-and-settings combination. It does not make every revision free: edited text, changed settings, or a different voice produce a different input, and the article reports no cache-hit rate, performance measurements, or cost comparison.

The app’s two routes make different trade-offs rather than establishing one universally better choice. BitProgram describes cloud ElevenLabs as pay-per-character and Gemini as offering a free tier, but the article gives no current rates, usage limits, data-retention terms, or provider comparison. Check the current provider terms and your own requirements before sending scripts to a cloud service.

- Latency and cost: No measured synthesis speed, hardware test, or quantified savings is provided. Compare response time on your own device and the current API charges for your usage.
Technology behind the desktop app
The named stack is Python and PySide6 for the desktop interface, ONNX Runtime for Kokoro inference, llama-cpp-python for Qwen inference, and lameenc for MP3 encoding. BitProgram says packaging was difficult, particularly when bundling ONNX Runtime and llama.cpp without pulling in a large CUDA dependency. The author’s practical lesson was to begin with CPU-only builds and distribute GPU builds separately.
The author also notes that voice-direction suggestions are subjective and that the model does not hear the selected voice. In other words, suggested direction should be treated as guidance rather than a promise that generated speech will match a particular delivery.

Price, platforms, and what the article does not establish
BitProgram’s September 30, 2026 article states that SoundScript costs $29 as a one-time purchase, has no subscription, telemetry, or account, and supports Windows 10/11 and modern Linux. It says purchasers provide their own ElevenLabs and Gemini API keys. Price, availability, and platform support are the author’s claims at publication; they are time-sensitive and are not independently verified here.
The account includes no release version, independent performance comparison, audio-quality benchmark, security audit, or third-party verification. It is best read as a description of the design and the author’s build experience, not as proof of how fast, secure, or suitable the app will be for a particular workflow.
