Choose the Sony LinkBuds Open if you prefer its open-ring design or want the longer stated playback time on a single charge. Choose the Shokz OpenFit if an ear-hook fit suits you better or you value the higher stated total playback time with the case. These are manufacturer specifications, not results from a controlled head-to-head test; comfort and sound quality depend on the listener.
What’s different about the fit?
Sony LinkBuds Open: an open ring
Sony describes the LinkBuds Open as an open-ring design intended to keep you connected to your surroundings. The ring-style earpiece is a different fit approach from a conventional sealed earbud, but specifications alone cannot tell you whether it will feel comfortable in your ears. Sony’s product information also notes that alternate fitting supporters are sold separately.

Shokz OpenFit: an ear hook
The OpenFit uses an ear-hook design and air conduction. The hook sits around the ear rather than sealing the ear canal, which may appeal if you prefer that style of placement. It is not possible to establish individual comfort or compatibility with glasses and headwear from the product specifications alone. If you can, try the fit before buying.
Neither is a noise-cancelling substitute
Neither model seals the ear like a conventional in-ear headphone. Sony explicitly says the LinkBuds Open do not offer active noise cancelling or traditional noise isolation. Open-ear designs can make surrounding sounds easier to hear, but they do not guarantee that you will notice every hazard: volume, background noise and the situation all matter. Shokz likewise presents OpenFit as an open-ear product, not a sealed noise-cancelling earbud. Shokz’s product page

Battery life: per charge or with the case?
The manufacturer figures favor different priorities. Sony lists a longer maximum continuous music playback time on a charge, while Shokz lists a longer maximum total with the case. Actual runtime varies with settings and use, so these maximums should not be treated as a controlled comparison.
| Model | Published playback claim | Source qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Sony LinkBuds Open | Up to 8 hours of continuous music playback per charge; up to 22 hours total including the case | Sony’s official support specifications give the per-charge figure; Sony’s product page gives the case-inclusive figure and says performance varies with settings and conditions. Sony specifications and Sony product page |
| Shokz OpenFit | Up to 7 hours per charge; up to 28 hours with the case | Shokz says actual battery life depends on volume, source, interference, features and use habits. Shokz product page |
On the published maximums, Sony is the better fit if the single-charge figure matters most; Shokz is the better fit if you prioritize the stated total with the case. Neither figure establishes which lasts longer under the same listening conditions.

Water resistance and case care
Both manufacturers specify water resistance for the earbuds, not the charging case. Sony lists IPX4-equivalent protection for the LinkBuds Open; Shokz lists IP54 for the OpenFit earbuds. Neither rating means the earbuds are submersible, and neither case should be treated as water-resistant or waterproof.

Sony says the charging case is not water-resistant. See Sony’s specifications and Sony’s care guidance.
- Shokz: Shokz lists IP54 for the earbuds and says the charging case is not rated waterproof. See OpenFit support.
Multipoint and app controls
Both models document connections to two devices: Sony lists multipoint connection, and Shokz says OpenFit can pair with two devices. That establishes support for the feature, not that one model switches between devices more reliably or conveniently in everyday use. Sony’s official specifications are at Sony support; Shokz describes the feature on its OpenFit product page.

Which one should you buy?
- Choose Sony LinkBuds Open if you prefer the ring-style design or put more weight on the stated per-charge playback maximum.
- Choose Shokz OpenFit if you prefer an ear-hook design or put more weight on the stated total playback maximum with the case.
- Try before buying if fit is uncertain. The designs differ, and published specifications cannot settle comfort, glasses compatibility or headwear fit for you.
For sound quality, call quality, sound leakage and comfort, the manufacturer specifications cited here do not establish a winner from same-condition testing. Check current prices and availability before purchasing, since listings can change.
