What should a new player do first?
Solo Leveling: ARISE adapts the Solo Leveling webtoon into an action game. You control Jinwoo, combine his skills and weapons, fight alongside hunters, and build an Army of Shadows. Netmarble describes the combat style as something players shape through different skill-and-weapon combinations, rather than documenting one required setup in its August 27, 2026 update.

- Progress through the story. Story chapters are the clearest confirmed progression path in the official materials: the artifact menu and artifact crafting each have story gates.
- Experiment with Jinwoo’s available skills and weapons. The official description supports customizing combinations, but does not prescribe a beginner rotation.
- Add hunters as teammates and learn what each does in your current client. The sources reviewed do not establish a universally best starter lineup.
- Check a system’s unlock and material costs before spending. In particular, crafting consumes its listed materials and Gold.

Jinwoo is the character whose skills and weapons you combine to create a combat style. Hunters join him as teammates, while the Army of Shadows is another part of the game’s broader power-and-progression loop. Those roles explain the basic structure, but the official sources here do not give a specific skill rotation, ideal weapon pairing, or tested team composition.

For a hunter or weapon choice, check the current in-game description and compare the details that matter to your situation: the character’s listed role, whether its element fits the encounter, the investment required, and whether the recommendation reflects the latest balance changes. These are evaluation criteria, not a ranking; the available sources do not substantiate a best beginner hunter or element team.
When do artifacts and crafting unlock?
Netmarble’s official artifact guide says artifacts can equip both Jinwoo and hunters, and matching pieces in a set add effects. Its listed unlocks are:

Both official guides say they reflect a test version, so treat the listed gates as guidance rather than a guarantee: confirm the unlock in the current client. The crafting guide also says crafting cannot fail, requires the materials and Gold shown for the chosen item, and does not cover every hunter weapon or item as craftable.
Once artifacts are available, pay attention to matched sets as well as individual pieces because the guide says set matches provide additional effects. The source does not establish a best set or a best allocation between Jinwoo and a particular hunter.
Which progression details have changed recently?
The game has received story, level-cap, system, roster, weapon, and balance changes. These are dated examples, not permanent beginner rules:
- May 7, 2026: Netmarble said it revised the main story in Chapters 3–20, added Chapters 32–34 to Normal and Reverse modes, and raised Jinwoo’s maximum level from 140 to 150 through a job change. The update also unified entry currency for Gates, Unstable Dungeon, Battlefield of Chaos, and Hunter Archive. See the May 7 update announcement.
- August 27, 2026: Netmarble introduced Lee Joohee, Pilgrim of the Labyrinth, as a Light-element Buster with prism-based skills; added Hard and Reverse Hard difficulties for Hidden Chapters 11 and 12; and added Jinwoo’s SSR weapon Spirit Blade: Snowstorm. The update also adjusted selected Jinwoo weapons, hunters, and artifact set effects. See the August 27 update announcement.
Because both content and balance have changed, an older build recommendation may no longer match the live game. Verify chapter labels, system availability, and character or set effects in your client.

Can you follow a guaranteed best starter build?
Not from the official sources cited here: they do not establish a best starter hunter, a best element team, an exact combat rotation, or a required purchase.
