Solana’s documented base network fee is 5,000 lamports per signature, but that is only the base component—not necessarily the total fee for every transaction. An optional priority fee can add to the cost and improve the likelihood that a leader schedules a transaction ahead of competing ones; it does not guarantee confirmation by a particular time. Solana’s documentation reviewed in 2026 also distinguishes a confirmed transaction from a finalized one.
How much does a Solana transaction cost?
Solana’s current fee documentation lists a base fee of 5,000 lamports per charged signature. A transaction with one charged signature and no priority fee therefore has a 5,000-lamport base component. More charged signatures increase that component, and an optional priority fee can increase the total network fee. Check the Solana fee structure documentation for the current documented amount, since protocol parameters can change.

The base fee compensates validators for signature-verification work. Solana says 50% of the base fee is burned and 50% goes to the validator. The prioritization fee goes entirely to the validator.
These figures describe the protocol fee, not necessarily every cost associated with an action in a wallet or app. A wallet or application could impose a separate charge, and a token swap can involve trading fees or price impact; the cited Solana fee documentation does not establish whether a particular service adds such costs. A fee is charged whether a transaction succeeds or fails, so paying it is not proof that the transaction completed successfully.

What is a priority fee, and how is it calculated?
A priority fee is optional. It can make a transaction more attractive for scheduling by the current leader, but it is not a purchase of guaranteed inclusion or a fixed confirmation time.
Legacy and v0 transactions
For legacy and v0 transactions, the priority fee is calculated from the requested compute-unit price and compute-unit limit:

Priority fee in lamports = ceil(compute-unit price × requested compute-unit limit ÷ 1,000,000)
The default compute-unit price is zero. The limit is the maximum compute budget requested for the transaction, and the fee is based on that requested limit—not only on the compute units ultimately used. An unnecessarily high requested limit can therefore increase the priority fee.

v1 transactions
Solana documents a different rule for v1 transactions: their priority fee is set as an absolute lamport total in the message configuration rather than calculated from a per-compute-unit price and limit. Solana’s terminology documentation says v1 is active on all clusters.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you add a priority fee?
| Choice | What it means | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| No explicit priority fee | The default compute-unit price for legacy and v0 transactions is zero. | No added priority fee under that setting, but no fee-based increase in scheduling priority. |
| Set a priority fee | The fee can increase the likelihood that the current leader schedules the transaction ahead of competing ones. | You pay an additional amount determined by the transaction format and fee settings; there is no guaranteed confirmation time. |
Use a priority fee when you value improved scheduling priority enough to justify the added cost. For developers who need an estimate of current compute-unit prices, Solana’s fee reference lists Helius, QuickNode, and Triton as services offering real-time estimates. An estimate can inform a fee setting; it cannot turn that setting into a timing promise.

What do submitted, confirmed, and finalized mean?
Sending a transaction is not the same as seeing it confirmed, and confirmation is not the same as finality. Solana’s terminology reference defines a confirmed block as one that received a supermajority of ledger votes. It defines finality in terms of two-thirds of stake sharing a common root, and says a transaction is finalized when its block becomes a root.

| Status or measure | Meaning in Solana’s terminology |
|---|---|
| Submitted | The transaction has been sent; submission alone does not establish confirmation or success. |
| Confirmed | The transaction’s block received a supermajority of ledger votes. |
| Finalized | The transaction’s block became a root; Solana ties finality to two-thirds of stake sharing a common root. |
| Confirmation time | The wallclock duration from a leader creating a tick entry to creating a confirmed block; it is not a universal wait-time promise for an individual transaction. |
The official definitions explain what these terms represent, but they do not establish one exact number of seconds every user should expect. A transaction’s fee setting affects scheduling likelihood, not a guaranteed elapsed time.
