The right softphone headset is the one that works with your calling app and computer, fits comfortably through your workday, and provides the connection and call controls you need. Check the exact headset model and variant against your platform’s current compatibility or certification information before buying; a listing or certification is not proof that a headset is universally best.
Start with your calling app and computer
Headset compatibility is specific. Check the exact calling app—such as Teams or Zoom—the computer’s operating system, the headset’s connector or included wireless receiver, and whether its call controls work as expected. Microsoft says certified peripherals support plug-and-play use and Teams call control, but similarly named certified and general UC variants can differ. Confirm the precise model and variant in Microsoft’s Teams device documentation.

Do not assume that Teams certification establishes equivalent functionality in another softphone. Zoom documents supported USB HID devices and certified hardware separately, while EPOS publishes a softphone compatibility guide. Check the documentation for the app you actually use.

Choose a connection that suits your work
USB wired: fewer setup and charging steps
A wired USB-A or USB-C headset avoids wireless pairing and battery charging. Before choosing, check which ports your computer has and whether the headset includes the connector you need. Some catalog models offer multiple connection options, but the exact variant matters.
#1 Best Overall

- Rotating Noise Canceling Mic: Minimizes unwanted background noise for clear conversations; the rotating boom arm can be tucked out of the way when you’re not using it
- Handy In-line Controls: Simple in-line controls on the headset cable let you adjust the volume or mute calls without disruption
- Plug-and-Play USB Computer Headset: Simply plug the USB-A connector into your computer and you’re ready to talk or listen without the need to install software
- Padded Comfort: Comfortable headphones with adjustable headband features swivel-mounted, leatherette ear cushions for hours of comfort and is easy to clean
Bluetooth: useful for mobile and hybrid work
Bluetooth can make it easier to move between a computer and mobile devices, depending on the headset and host. Microsoft notes that native Bluetooth performance depends partly on the computer’s Bluetooth radio and recommends keeping firmware current. If call reliability matters, check the manufacturer’s connection guidance and test the headset with your computer and calling app.
DECT: a base-station option for office wireless
DECT headsets use a base and offer another wireless setup for office use. Confirm that the base connects to your computer and supports the calling app’s controls; do not infer app compatibility from the wireless standard alone. Yealink provides headset buying guidance for comparing options.

Match the wearing style to the workday
Official catalogs include single-sided and double-sided headsets. A single-sided design can leave one ear open to nearby conversation; a double-sided design covers both ears. Choose according to whether you need to hear colleagues, limit distractions, or stay focused on calls. For long shifts, fit and comfort matter as much as listed features. The available product documentation does not establish a reliable comfort ranking, so try a candidate for the length of time you expect to wear it.

Evaluate microphone needs in the actual environment
Open offices are harder environments for clear voice communication, Microsoft notes. Certification and manufacturer descriptions can help identify devices intended for business calls, but they are not independent comparative microphone tests. If background noise or voice pickup is critical, prioritize models documented for your setting and test them there before committing.

Microsoft describes its certification program this way: “The personal peripherals certification program ensures peripherals (such as headsets, speakerphones, webcams, and monitors) offer rich audio or video quality.” That statement describes the program’s aim; it does not guarantee universal compatibility, a particular fit, or superiority over other headsets. See Microsoft’s Teams device documentation.
Build a shortlist by connection and platform
Wired business headset example
Microsoft’s Teams headset catalog includes the EPOS ADAPT 100 II Series, described as wired single- or double-sided headsets with USB-A, USB-C, and 3.5 mm connection options. It is a reasonable example to investigate for a wired shortlist, not a universal recommendation: verify the exact model, connector, and compatibility with your own softphone in the Teams headset catalog.

Other platform-listed options
Microsoft’s certification results and catalog also list headsets from vendors including Jabra, Yealink, HP Poly/Poly, EPOS, Dell, and Logitech. These listings can help you identify candidates for a Teams-focused shortlist, but they do not establish that one model performs best. Check the current platform list because certification details and supported devices can change.
For other calling platforms, use their own documentation. Zoom separates supported USB HID devices from certified hardware in its supported devices guidance. Cisco also maintains Webex headset information. A device’s presence on one platform’s list should not be treated as confirmation for another.

Use this checklist before buying
- App: Is the exact model or variant supported or certified for the softphone you use?
- Computer: Does it work with your operating system and available USB-A, USB-C, or Bluetooth connection?
- Receiver or base: Does the package include a USB dongle or DECT base if the setup requires one?
- Call controls: Can you answer, end, and mute calls as needed, and does the platform button behave correctly in your app?
- Other devices: Do you also need to connect a desk phone or mobile phone?
- Work pattern: Is wired simplicity preferable, or do you need wireless movement? If wireless, account for charging and pairing.
- Fit: Do you prefer one ear or both covered, and can you wear the headset comfortably for a full shift?
- Noise: Has the microphone been assessed in conditions similar to your workplace, rather than judged only by a marketing description?
Make the final choice with a real call
Once you have checked compatibility, test your top candidate with your computer and softphone. Confirm that call answer and mute controls work, that others can understand you in your usual environment, and that the fit remains comfortable during an extended session. This practical check is especially important when a headset will be used for frequent calls or in a noisy office.
