Snapdragon 888 Plus vs Exynos 2100: Which Chip Leads?

Snapdragon 888 Plus leads the displayed NanoReview benchmark snapshot, but unequal AnTuTu sample counts and phone-level differences limit a direct verdict.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Snapdragon 888 Plus has the higher displayed results in NanoReview’s current AnTuTu 11 and Geekbench 6 comparison, but those figures are an aggregate snapshot—not a controlled test of two otherwise identical phones. The chips are both 5 nm flagship-era platforms with different CPU and GPU designs; a handset’s cooling, power limits, software and memory configuration also shape its real-world performance.

How the specifications compare

Specification Snapdragon 888 Plus Exynos 2100
Process 5 nm 5 nm FinFET
CPU Qualcomm Kryo 680, up to 3 GHz 1 Cortex-X1 up to 2.9 GHz, 3 Cortex-A78 up to 2.8 GHz, and 4 Cortex-A55 up to 2.2 GHz
GPU Adreno 660 Mali-G78 MP14
AI hardware Hexagon 780; Qualcomm states 32 TOPS for the AI engine Triple-core NPU and DSP; Samsung states up to 26 TOPS
Connectivity X60 5G modem-RF system; Qualcomm lists peak download speeds up to 7.5 Gbps Integrated 5G modem; Samsung lists sub-6 GHz and mmWave rates, with performance caveats
Imaging and video Spectra 580 ISP, triple concurrent capture, and platform features including 4K HDR video Support for up to six cameras, up to 200 MP camera resolution, and 8K encoding and decoding specifications

These are platform capabilities, not a promise that every phone using a chip implements them. Phone makers determine features such as supported modem bands and camera configurations. TOPS figures are vendor-published claims, not directly comparable independent measurements. Qualcomm frames its comparisons against the earlier Snapdragon 888, while Samsung’s performance claims compare with earlier Exynos chips—not with the Snapdragon 888 Plus. See the Qualcomm platform specifications and Samsung Exynos 2100 specifications.

What the benchmark figures show

NanoReview’s currently displayed aggregate comparison reports these results:

Benchmark Exynos 2100 Snapdragon 888 Plus Displayed difference
AnTuTu 11 1,065,369 (40 tests) 1,208,784 (5 tests) 13% lead for Snapdragon 888 Plus
Geekbench 6 single-core 1,435 1,605 12% lead for Snapdragon 888 Plus

These are the figures and sample counts shown on NanoReview’s comparison page, not results from matched phones tested side by side. The AnTuTu sample counts differ substantially, and the cited comparison does not establish that the devices shared firmware, temperature, memory or test conditions. Benchmark versions, phone models and sample composition can affect scores, so treat the results as a snapshot rather than an enduring property of every phone with either chip. NanoReview also shows category scores for CPU, gaming, battery life and overall performance; those are site-level scores, not substitutes for the named benchmark results. Does the Snapdragon 888 Plus have the faster CPU?

Its listed maximum CPU clock is 3 GHz, compared with the Exynos 2100’s listed top-core maximum of 2.9 GHz. The Exynos has a specified heterogeneous layout—one Cortex-X1, three Cortex-A78 and four Cortex-A55 cores—while Qualcomm identifies its CPU as Kryo 680. The listed clock ceiling alone does not determine overall speed: workload, implementation, cooling and power limits matter. The benchmark snapshot above favors the Snapdragon 888 Plus in Geekbench 6 single-core, but it is not a controlled phone-to-phone test.

Which chip is better for gaming?

The Snapdragon 888 Plus pairs an Adreno 660 GPU with the Exynos 2100’s Mali-G78 MP14. The available comparison does not provide controlled same-device game testing for this exact pair, so specifications and aggregate category scores cannot establish a universal gaming winner or predict sustained frame rates. For a particular phone, its cooling design and power limits are important alongside the GPU.

What the launch information does—and does not—establish

Samsung’s launch announcement, dated January 12, 2021, described the Exynos 2100 as its first premium 5G-integrated flagship mobile processor and said it was in mass production at launch. Samsung’s performance improvements in that announcement compare the Exynos 2100 with the predecessor Exynos 990; they are not Snapdragon 888 Plus comparison results. The announcement is available from Samsung Semiconductor.

Likewise, Qualcomm’s listed capabilities describe its platform, while a phone manufacturer decides how to implement the chip. Peak connectivity specifications do not guarantee a handset’s supported bands or actual network speeds, and the headline benchmark figures do not guarantee the same experience across phones.
