The Snapdragon 870 leads the cited benchmark aggregates and has the higher peak CPU clock, while the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is specified on a newer 4 nm process and includes an X62 modem with peak download speeds stated up to 2.9 Gbps. Those platform specifications do not establish which phone is faster overall or lasts longer: handset cooling, memory, software, battery, network support and price all matter.
Snapdragon 870 vs Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 specifications
Qualcomm lists the 870 as a 7 nm platform with a Kryo 585 CPU reaching up to 3.2 GHz. The 7s Gen 2 is listed at 4 nm, with a Kryo CPU reaching up to 2.4 GHz. These are maximum platform clock specifications, not direct measurements of application performance.

The 870’s higher stated peak CPU frequency is a meaningful specification difference, but clock speed alone cannot predict performance in every app or sustained workload. Likewise, the 7s Gen 2’s 4 nm process specification, compared with the 870’s 7 nm, is useful context but does not by itself prove longer battery life, lower temperatures or better efficiency in a particular phone.

Connectivity depends on the handset and network
The 7s Gen 2 platform’s stated peak download rate of up to 2.9 Gbps is a maximum capability, not an expected everyday speed or service guarantee. Actual 5G bands and achievable speeds depend on the phone maker’s implementation, carrier, coverage and network conditions. Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E capability likewise does not guarantee that every phone using the chipset implements the feature; the router must also support the relevant standard.

What the chipset comparison means when choosing a phone
For peak CPU and the cited benchmark results
The Snapdragon 870 is ahead on its listed maximum CPU clock and on both NanoReview benchmark aggregates shown above. If those are your main comparison points, the 870 has the advantage in the available figures. They do not establish how any two specific phones compare in sustained use.
For display and video capabilities
Qualcomm’s 7s Gen 2 product brief specifies support for FHD+ displays up to 144 Hz and 4K video capture at 30 fps with HDR. These are platform capabilities, not guarantees about a shipping phone: manufacturers choose which supported features to implement.

For comparing actual phones
Check the exact phone models rather than choosing on chipset name alone. Cooling design and sustained power affect long gaming sessions; memory configuration and software affect everyday responsiveness; battery capacity and device tuning affect endurance. Price, regional variants and supported network bands can also change which phone is the better fit. The chipset figures alone do not settle those model-specific questions.
Which is better: Snapdragon 870 or Snapdragon 7s Gen 2?
The Snapdragon 870 leads on the cited peak CPU clock and benchmark aggregates. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 has a 4 nm process specification, an X62 modem with a stated peak download capability up to 2.9 Gbps, and specified support for FHD+ at up to 144 Hz. There is no across-the-board winner on this evidence: compare the specific phones’ implementation, price and features before deciding.
