The Dimensity 9400 leads the cited CPU comparisons and several graphics tests, but that does not guarantee a faster or longer-lasting phone in every situation. It is the newer 3 nm chip with an all-big-core CPU design; Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 uses a 4 nm design with two efficiency cores. Scores vary by benchmark version and tested handset, so compare the exact phones—not just the processor names—before buying.
At a glance: what separates the chips?

Qualcomm identifies Adreno graphics and an integrated Snapdragon X75 modem on its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 product page. Qualcomm also notes that the platform is available in a six-core configuration under part number SM8650Q-AB and advises checking the phone maker’s specifications for device capabilities. The eight-core layout in the table is the standard configuration cited by 91mobiles, not a description of every platform variant.

91mobiles comparison scores
| Test reported by 91mobiles | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 | Dimensity 9400 |
|---|---|---|
| AnTuTu | 2,186,467 | 2,537,181 |
| Geekbench single-core | 2,303 | 2,819 |
| Geekbench multi-core | 7,376 | 8,515 |
These are the scores presented on 91mobiles’ comparison page; it identifies the AnTuTu results as its tests, but the comparison material does not fully document a matched-device protocol. The page does not state a date for these scores.
NanoReview comparison scores
| Test reported by NanoReview | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 | Dimensity 9400 |
|---|---|---|
| AnTuTu 11 | 2,345,563 (443 tests) | 2,825,187 (72 tests) |
| Geekbench 6 single-core | 2,203 (139 tests) | 2,797 (22 tests) |
| Geekbench 6 multi-core | 6,511 (139 tests) | 8,767 (22 tests) |
| 3DMark Steel Nomad Light | 1,652; 79% stability | 2,371; 61% stability |
| PCMark 3.0 overall | 16,318 | 15,020 |
NanoReview’s comparison displays the sample counts shown above. Its AnTuTu result is explicitly AnTuTu 11, and the Geekbench results are Geekbench 6. The 3DMark stability figures are important context: Dimensity 9400 has the higher listed peak score, while Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has the higher listed stability percentage. A peak score and a stability figure are different measures; neither alone proves which phone will sustain better gaming performance.
PCMark 3.0 is a useful counterexample to a blanket claim that Dimensity wins every benchmark: the displayed overall result favors Snapdragon. Different tests stress different workloads, and results can also reflect the phones and samples behind an aggregate comparison.

Different-phone tests: useful context, not a chip-only verdict
In a 2024 comparison, Gizmochina tested a vivo X200 Pro with Dimensity 9400 against a Red Magic 9S Pro with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It reported Geekbench single-core scores of 2,751 and 2,273, multi-core scores of 8,712 and 7,054, and AnTuTu scores of 2,927,565 and 2,165,760, respectively. Because the test phones are different models, these figures reflect each complete handset—including its cooling, power settings and software—as well as its processor. See Gizmochina’s October 30, 2024 comparison.

CPU speed and multitasking
The higher listed Geekbench scores favor Dimensity 9400 in both single-core and multi-core performance. Single-core tests emphasize work handled by one CPU core; multi-core tests exercise several cores together. That gives a useful indication of relative CPU capability in those tests, not a guarantee of a particular app opening faster or every task finishing sooner.
Graphics and gaming
The cited Steel Nomad Light score favors Dimensity 9400 at peak, but its displayed stability percentage is lower than Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s. Phone cooling, sustained power limits and game-specific software can change results during a longer session. The available comparisons do not establish a controlled same-chassis gaming test or settle which chip provides better sustained performance across phones.
Efficiency and battery life
A 3 nm process and all-big-core CPU arrangement distinguish Dimensity 9400 on paper, but they do not establish longer battery life. Battery capacity, display, modem use, thermal design, firmware and workload all contribute to a phone’s endurance. The cited material does not provide comparable battery testing under matched conditions, so it cannot support a general battery-life winner.

When both options are available, evaluate the actual handset and its regional configuration. The chip comparison is a starting point, not a substitute for a phone comparison.
- Check sustained performance: Look for long gaming or stress-test results for the exact model, not only a short benchmark peak.
- Compare battery evidence: Prefer reviews that test the specific phones under similar conditions; do not infer endurance from the process node or CPU layout alone.
- Verify the configuration: Confirm the processor variant, memory, storage and other specifications for the exact regional model. Qualcomm notes that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 also has a six-core configuration.
- Weigh the rest of the phone: Camera implementation, display, thermal design, software support, price and availability can matter more to your purchase than a benchmark lead.
- Use scores as clues, not promises: Confirm benchmark version, tested phone and sample count before comparing results from different pages.
91mobiles lists vivo X200-series models among Dimensity 9400 phones and OnePlus 12 among Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phones, but product availability and configurations can differ by market. Check the manufacturer’s current listing for the exact model and region.
