In the cited Geekbench 6 aggregates, Apple’s A16 Bionic leads Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in both single-core and multi-core CPU scores. That points to stronger results in this benchmark, not a universal guarantee about every phone: Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 appears in different Android devices, while the A16 figures here are associated with Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro. The handset, software, cooling and test conditions matter.

Specifications at a glance

Specification Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Apple A16 Bionic
CPU 64-bit Kryo CPU; Qualcomm lists speeds up to 3 GHz and says device CPU speed depends on the OEM platform. Six-core CPU in iPhone 14 Pro: two performance cores and four efficiency cores.
GPU Adreno GPU; Qualcomm does not state a core count on the cited product page. Five-core GPU in iPhone 14 Pro.
AI hardware Hexagon processor and 7th Gen Qualcomm AI Engine. 16-core Neural Engine.
Process and modem Qualcomm lists a 4 nm process and integrated Snapdragon X65 5G modem-RF system. The cited Apple specifications establish the iPhone 14 Pro’s A16 configuration, but do not provide directly comparable process or modem specifications.

Specifications are from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 page and Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro specifications. Core counts and architecture labels describe different designs; by themselves, they do not establish comparable graphics speed or AI throughput.

Geekbench 6: A16 Bionic leads in the cited aggregates

NanoReview’s comparison page reports these Geekbench 6 averages:

Chip Single-core average Multi-core average CPU benchmark samples shown
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 1,662 4,188 54
A16 Bionic 2,631 6,602 24

These are database averages, not the result of a controlled test using one Android phone against one iPhone. A separate listing from CPU-Monkey, last updated August 5, 2026, gives Geekbench 6 single-core scores of 1,322 for Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 2,531 for A16 Bionic, with 1,991 A16 entries shown. The difference between sources is a reason to keep each score attached to its source and sample context, rather than treating any one figure as a fixed result for every device.

What the benchmark results do—and do not—show

CPU performance

Across the cited Geekbench 6 comparison listings, A16 Bionic scores higher in both single-core and multi-core results. That supports calling it the leader in these CPU aggregates. It does not quantify how much faster a particular pair of phones will feel in daily use, nor does it predict every app or workload.

AnTuTu scores need extra caution

NanoReview reports AnTuTu 11 averages of 1,294,871 for Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 1,626,008 for A16 Bionic, but warns that “AnTuTu results from iOS and Android are not directly comparable!” Those cross-platform averages should not be used as a definitive percentage advantage.

Graphics and AI claims are not head-to-head measurements

Qualcomm says Snapdragon 8 Gen 1’s re-architected Adreno GPU is 25% more efficient and renders graphics 50% faster than its predecessor. Those are Qualcomm’s generational claims, not a direct comparison with A16 Bionic. Apple’s launch announcement says the A16’s Neural Engine can perform nearly 17 trillion operations per second and describes 50% more memory bandwidth for its five-core GPU; the bandwidth figure is relative to the previous-generation chip in Apple’s announcement, not Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Neither manufacturer figure is an independent head-to-head test. See Apple’s September 2022 announcement.

Which chip should you choose?

If the question is specifically which chip scores higher in the cited Geekbench 6 aggregates, the answer is A16 Bionic. If you are choosing a phone, the chip name alone is not enough to make a sound purchase decision. Compare the actual handsets and consider:

  • Exact model and implementation: Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is used in OEM devices whose CPU speed and platform details can vary; Qualcomm advises checking the device maker’s specifications.
  • Your workload: Benchmark results do not establish performance for every game, app, camera feature or sustained task.
  • Cooling and sustained use: The cited aggregates do not settle thermal behavior or performance over extended sessions.
  • Battery and software: These depend on the complete phone and its software, not just the processor.
  • Price and features: Compare the specific phones available to you, rather than treating either chip as a standalone buying recommendation.

Bottom line

A16 Bionic leads the cited Geekbench 6 CPU aggregates, while the specifications show two differently configured mobile platforms rather than directly comparable parts across every category. Use named-source scores as indicators, not guarantees; for a buying decision, compare the particular phones and the tasks you care about.
