Qualcomm claims up to 35% faster CPU performance and up to 25% faster graphics rendering than Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but those are manufacturer comparisons—not guaranteed gains in every phone. Independent benchmark results also reflect the handset’s cooling, firmware, and power limits.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 vs 8 Gen 2 specifications
The clearest differences are Gen 2’s revised CPU arrangement, support for newer graphics and connectivity features, and additional AI capabilities. The figures below describe platform capabilities; they do not guarantee that every phone implements or performs identically.

How much faster is Snapdragon 8 Gen 2?
Qualcomm’s headline figures are useful for understanding its intended generational improvements, but they are vendor claims rather than a single independently measured result across all phones. Qualcomm says Gen 2 offers up to 35% faster CPU performance and up to 40% better power efficiency than its predecessor; it separately claims up to 25% faster graphics rendering. The “up to” qualification matters: results vary by workload and handset.

AI comparisons need an even narrower reading. Qualcomm’s claim of up to 4.35× AI performance is tied to MobileBERT, while its 60% performance-per-watt figure is for sustained INT4 inference. Neither establishes that every AI feature or app runs that much faster. Qualcomm’s 2022 Gen 2 announcement · Qualcomm Gen 2 platform specifications

What the benchmark comparisons show
Published results show a meaningful advantage for Gen 2 in some tested phones, but a phone benchmark is not a chip-only measurement. Cooling design, firmware, power limits, memory, display resolution, and performance mode can all change the result. A short peak run and a sustained gaming loop answer different questions, so results should be compared under similar conditions.
Graphics: 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited
In a 2022 comparison, Tom’s Guide reported that its tested Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 device scored 48% higher in 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited than its Galaxy S22 Ultra result of 56.9 fps. That indicates a substantial gap in that test setup, not a universal 48% advantage for every Gen 2 phone over every Gen 1 phone. Tom’s Guide benchmark report

Gen 2 has the newer GPU feature set, including Vulkan 1.3 support and hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and Qualcomm claims faster graphics rendering than Gen 1. The cited 3DMark comparison also shows a notable Gen 2 result in one tested phone. For actual gameplay, sustained performance and heat are as important as a peak score: a phone that throttles under load may not maintain its initial frame rate.
