In NanoReview’s published comparison, the 8 Elite scores substantially higher in AnTuTu 10 and Geekbench 6. Those are aggregator figures, not results from a documented matched-phone test, so use them to understand the performance gap—not to predict every phone’s score or sustained speed.
What separates the Snapdragon 8 Elite and 7 Gen 4?
These chips sit in different product tiers and use different CPU designs. Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite on October 21, 2024, as a flagship mobile platform. It unveiled the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 on May 15, 2025, as a new 7-series multimedia platform. The 8 Elite uses a second-generation custom Qualcomm Oryon CPU and a 3 nm process; the 7 Gen 4 uses a Qualcomm Kryo CPU and a 4 nm process. Qualcomm’s 8 Elite announcement and 7 Gen 4 announcement establish their positioning and launch context.

A smaller process-node number does not, by itself, establish how long a particular phone will last on a charge. The finished phone’s battery, display, software, power tuning, and thermal design matter too.

- START THE DAY SMARTER: Stay one step ahead with a phone that gives you the info you need before you even know you need it with Now Brief.²
- REDUCE THE NOISE. REVEAL THE MAGIC: AI Camera with Audio Eraser lets you capture vibrant videos in low light and minimize unwanted noises so you can relive your favorite moments with fewer distractions.³
- BRING OUT THE BEST IN EVERY FACE: Capture every portrait with clarity and confidence on the Galaxy S25+ Series. The advanced portrait features adjust skin tones and preserve natural textures, giving every shot a polished, professional look.
- MORE POWER TO YOU: Reimagine what’s possible with the Galaxy S25+, featuring our most powerful processor yet. Effortlessly translate your calls, slow down a video, or edit your photos without skipping a beat.
Clock speed is not a standalone performance comparison: the chips use different CPU architectures and core configurations, and real results depend on the phone’s implementation. The same caution applies to maximum display and memory support; a handset may offer less than the platform maximum.
Benchmark comparison: 8 Elite leads the reported scores
| Benchmark | Snapdragon 8 Elite | Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 |

NanoReview lists these figures on its Snapdragon 8 Elite vs Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 comparison, accessed in 2026. The page names the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra for its 8 Elite entry, but does not document a matched-device protocol for the two chips. Treat the scores as indicative published comparisons, not as guaranteed results or a controlled apples-to-apples lab test.
The gap supports a clear directional conclusion: the 8 Elite has a substantial peak-performance advantage in the cited results. It does not establish how long either chip can maintain peak performance under load, nor does it predict the score of every phone using that chip. Cooling, software, and power configuration all affect real-device outcomes.

Geekbench’s Android chart is based on user-submitted Geekbench 7 results and includes devices only after at least five unique submissions; Geekbench says higher scores indicate higher performance. That chart is useful context for reading device scores, but it is not a controlled 8 Elite-versus-7 Gen 4 test. See Geekbench’s Android benchmark information.
What Qualcomm’s improvement percentages do—and do not—compare
Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 improves CPU performance by 27%, GPU graphics rendering by 30%, and AI performance by 65% versus the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. Those are Qualcomm’s predecessor comparisons, not measured gains over the Snapdragon 8 Elite. They show that the 7 Gen 4 advances its own series; they cannot be used to calculate the gap between these two chips. Qualcomm’s announcement attributes these figures to its comparison with the 7 Gen 3.

Choose an 8 Elite phone for demanding workloads
If your priorities include CPU- and GPU-heavy games, demanding editing, or high-frame-rate workloads, the flagship-tier 8 Elite is the stronger starting point based on its platform positioning and the cited benchmark table. The chip alone cannot tell you whether a particular phone will sustain high performance during a long gaming session; device-specific thermal testing is needed for that.

Consider a 7 Gen 4 phone for modern features without flagship positioning
The 7 Gen 4 still supports current platform features, including Wi-Fi 7, high-refresh displays, and on-device AI capabilities. Whether a phone exposes those features depends on its manufacturer. Compare the actual models’ camera systems, displays, software support, battery capacity, and connectivity rather than assuming every 7 Gen 4 phone includes every listed maximum.
Compare finished phones, not chip names alone
- Price: the sources do not establish current handset prices. Compare the specific models and regional configurations you can buy.
- Battery life: a process-node label or vendor efficiency claim does not establish a phone’s runtime. Use reviews of the exact handset.
- Sustained speed: look for device-specific long-session tests; peak benchmark scores do not show thermal behavior over time.
- Features: verify the phone maker’s published specifications. Platform support does not guarantee implementation.
Bottom line
The Snapdragon 8 Elite is the clear choice for higher peak performance; the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is a lower-tier platform that still supports modern features. The reported benchmarks show a large lead for the 8 Elite, but the best purchase depends on the complete phone—not the processor name alone. Check the exact model’s price, thermal behavior, battery life, and implemented features before deciding.
