The Snapdragon 8 Elite is Qualcomm’s 2024 flagship mobile platform, built around a second-generation custom Oryon CPU, an Adreno GPU and a Hexagon NPU. Its headline clocks, connectivity figures and performance gains describe platform capabilities or Qualcomm comparisons—not guaranteed results in every phone. The benchmark figures available here belong to specific devices and tests, so they should be read in context.
What is the Snapdragon 8 Elite?
Announced on October 21, 2024, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is the mobile platform Qualcomm identified as its first with a second-generation custom Oryon CPU. Qualcomm’s product brief lists part numbers SM8750-AB and SM8750-AC. It is distinct from later products with names such as Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Gen 6; the figures below refer to the 2024 platform. Qualcomm’s launch announcement and its Rev D product brief provide the platform identity and specifications.

- START THE DAY SMARTER: Stay one step ahead with a phone that gives you the info you need before you even know you need it with Now Brief.²
- REDUCE THE NOISE. REVEAL THE MAGIC: AI Camera with Audio Eraser lets you capture vibrant videos in low light and minimize unwanted noises so you can relive your favorite moments with fewer distractions.³
- BRING OUT THE BEST IN EVERY FACE: Capture every portrait with clarity and confidence on the Galaxy S25+ Series. The advanced portrait features adjust skin tones and preserve natural textures, giving every shot a polished, professional look.
- MORE POWER TO YOU: Reimagine what’s possible with the Galaxy S25+, featuring our most powerful processor yet. Effortlessly translate your calls, slow down a video, or edit your photos without skipping a beat.
- 45% CPU performance improvement.
- 44% improved CPU power efficiency.
- 45% faster Hexagon NPU.
- 40% greater GPU power efficiency.
Qualcomm cautions that results vary with OEM implementation and other factors. These percentages describe Qualcomm’s comparison; they do not predict a particular phone’s speed, battery life or sustained gaming performance.
Snapdragon 8 Elite benchmark: Geekbench scores in context
A Tom’s Guide report gives these Geekbench 6 results for two named devices: a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra using Snapdragon 8 Elite, and a Qualcomm-supplied reference device using the later Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. They are device scores, not a controlled comparison of the two chips alone.
| Device and processor | Geekbench 6 single-core | Geekbench 6 multi-core | Reported by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, Snapdragon 8 Elite | 3,031 | 9,829 | Tom’s Guide, 2025 |
| Qualcomm-supplied reference device, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 | 3,832 | 12,208 | Tom’s Guide, 2025 |
Tom’s Guide’s report identifies the Gen 5 result as coming from a Qualcomm-supplied reference device. Because that device had different hardware and configuration from the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the score gap cannot be attributed to chip silicon alone, and the Gen 5 result is not a score for the 2024 Snapdragon 8 Elite.

- Stunning 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate, ultra‑bright up to ~2600 nits, HDR support, “Vision Booster,” and adaptive color tone — giving vivid colours, great outdoor visibility, and super‑smooth scrolling.
- Powerful internals: it runs on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (3 nm) chip, with 12 GB (or in some markets up to 16 GB) RAM and up to 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage — offering significantly improved CPU/GPU/NPU performance, especially for AI tasks, gaming, and heavy multitasking.
- Advanced quad‑camera system: 200 MP wide main sensor, plus a 50 MP ultrawide, a 50 MP periscope telephoto (5× optical zoom), and a 10 MP telephoto (3× optical zoom) — giving flexibility from ultra‑wide through detailed telephoto shots, and strong performance in varied lighting.
- 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast wired charging, wireless charging (Qi2) and reverse wireless charging — balancing long battery life with flexible charging options.
- Durable, premium build: Titanium‑frame body, protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass, with IP68 dust/water resistance, ultrasonic in‑display fingerprint sensor, modern connectivity (5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth, UWB, USB‑C), and long‑term software support (Android 15 / One UI 7, promised 7 major OS/security updates).
Geekbench single-core results help indicate short burst CPU performance; multi-core results reflect parallel workloads. Neither score measures sustained gaming, battery life or the whole phone experience. When comparing two handsets, check that the Geekbench version and test context match, then consider sustained performance and thermals alongside price, memory and storage, display, battery, camera and regional processor variant.

A June 26, 2026 arXiv preprint by Murthy and colleagues measured FastVLM-0.5B on SM8750. In that study, the authors report 1.64× prefill speedup and 1.18× decode speedup for NPU execution versus their CPU baseline, plus 20–45× vision-encoder speedups across their encoder measurements. These results apply to the paper’s model, runtime, workloads and measurement setup; they are not a general speed rating for all AI tasks or Snapdragon 8 Elite phones.
The study’s arXiv abstract describes specialized model measurements, not a broad consumer-phone benchmark. Its results are most useful as evidence that hardware choice can affect a particular on-device vision-language workload.

How to use these specifications when choosing a phone
The chipset helps describe a phone’s underlying platform, but it does not determine the full experience. Before comparing Snapdragon 8 Elite phones, verify the exact model and regional variant against the manufacturer’s specifications. Then assess the details that platform-level maximums leave open:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- CPU clock and configuration: Confirm which platform version the phone uses; Qualcomm lists different maximum prime-core speeds.
- Memory and storage: Check the handset’s actual capacity and type rather than assuming the platform maximum is installed.
- Thermals and sustained use: Look for testing of the specific handset under longer gaming or heavy workloads, not just a short benchmark run.
- Display, cameras and charging: Check the phone’s panel, sensors, camera features and charging implementation; chipset support alone does not establish these specifications.
- Connectivity and region: Confirm supported bands, Wi-Fi features and the processor variant for the exact market and model.
Qualcomm’s October 2024 launch announcement named OEMs expected to launch devices, but it is not a current, complete catalog by region. Availability and configurations should be confirmed with the phone maker.
