The single-core gap is small; the multi-core gap is larger. Because the results come from different devices rather than a controlled processor-only test, they do not establish a universal winner for every phone.
Geekbench 6 results: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 vs A19 Pro
Tom’s Guide reports these Geekbench 6 scores for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 reference device and an iPhone 17 Pro with A19 Pro:

| Device tested | Single-core | Multi-core |
|---|---|---|
| Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 reference device | 3,832 | 12,208 |
| iPhone 17 Pro with Apple A19 Pro | 3,701 | 9,460 |
In these reported runs, the reference device is 131 points, or about 3.5%, ahead in single-core, and 2,748 points, or about 29%, ahead in multi-core. Those percentages are calculations from the cited scores, not separate test results. Geekbench scores reflect the tested devices and their conditions; the comparison does not isolate the processors from differences in handset design, cooling, software, or operating conditions. What the official specifications say
Apple A19 Pro in iPhone 17 Pro
Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro specifications list A19 Pro with a six-core CPU—two performance cores and four efficiency cores—a six-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, and a 16-core Neural Engine. The handset also supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing. These are specifications for Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro implementation, not a general specification for every device that might use a related component. Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro technical specifications provide the listed configuration.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
Qualcomm describes Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 as a mobile platform. Its product information cautions readers to consult device manufacturers’ specifications for CPU speed, so clock speeds and real-world behavior should not be assumed to be identical across phones. OEM choices and the complete handset matter when comparing Snapdragon results. See Qualcomm’s product page and its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 product brief.
How to interpret the performance comparison
Single-core and multi-core scores answer different questions
Single-core results measure performance in a workload that primarily uses one CPU core; multi-core results reflect work distributed across multiple cores. The cited Geekbench 6 runs put the two devices relatively close in single-core, while the Snapdragon reference device has a more substantial lead in multi-core. Neither score alone predicts performance in every app or task.

A reference device is not a retail-phone guarantee
One reference-device result cannot show what every Snapdragon-powered phone will achieve. Retail models can differ in CPU configuration, cooling, power limits, and software tuning. Qualcomm’s guidance to check OEM specifications is particularly relevant when a benchmark is being used to choose between actual phones.

Short benchmarks do not establish sustained performance
A brief benchmark captures a particular run, not necessarily how a handset behaves during a long gaming session, extended video processing, or other sustained heavy work. For those uses, repeated performance and each phone’s thermal design are more useful than a peak score alone. Notebookcheck’s initial report characterized Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 as performing on par with A19 Pro in official benchmarks and noted that additional devices could change the comparison; early snapshots should therefore be treated as provisional. Notebookcheck’s initial report gives that context.

Apple’s sustained-performance statement is a different comparison
Apple said on September 9, 2025, that A19 Pro paired with the iPhone’s vapor chamber enables “up to 40 percent better sustained performance than the previous generation.” That is Apple’s claim about improvement over the previous generation, not a measured A19 Pro-versus-Snapdragon result. Apple also called A19 Pro “Apple’s most capable iPhone chip yet”; that is the company’s characterization, not an independent ranking. Apple’s September 9, 2025 announcement states both claims.

- For CPU-heavy multitasking, treat the reported multi-core lead as a useful result for those two tested devices, not a guarantee for every Snapdragon phone.
- For gaming or long-running work, compare the actual phones’ cooling and sustained performance, as well as GPU performance; a short CPU score does not settle those questions.
- For a purchase, weigh the specific phone’s software ecosystem and price alongside its benchmark results. The cited sources do not provide a controlled comparison of those factors.
When checking another benchmark report, verify the benchmark version, whether it is single-core, multi-core, or graphics-focused, the exact handset and configuration, and whether the result is from a reference platform or a shipping phone. Avoid treating scores from different benchmark versions or unmatched devices as directly comparable.
