On paper and in NanoReview’s benchmark database, the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 is the faster chip. It leads on AnTuTu 11, Geekbench 6 CPU scores and memory bandwidth. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 is the newer platform, with newer CPU cores, an Adreno 810 GPU and a more current feature set. A second database, 91mobiles, shows a different pattern, so no single number settles it. This guide lays out the specifications, then shows where the two benchmark sources agree and where they don’t.

Specifications side by side

Unless noted, figures come from NanoReview’s chip comparison. Qualcomm’s own product brief for the 7s Gen 4 is used where it adds feature claims.

NanoReview lists Bluetooth 6.0 for the 7s Gen 4, which conflicts with Qualcomm’s brief. Qualcomm’s Bluetooth 5.4 is the more reliable figure here. Qualcomm’s brief also lists Vulkan 1.3 for the 7s Gen 4.

What the architecture difference means

CPU

The 7 Plus Gen 2 pairs a Cortex-X2 prime core with A710 performance cores. The 7s Gen 4 drops the X-class core and uses four Cortex-A720 cores plus A520 efficiency cores. Its newer cores are more modern, but the prime core runs at a lower peak clock (2.7 GHz against 2.91 GHz), and the older X2 is a bigger core. That is consistent with the 7 Plus Gen 2 leading in the CPU aggregates below. Clock speeds alone do not predict how a finished phone feels.

  • Standout design. Make a statement with its stunning look, modern color, and soft, vegan leather finish.

GPU

The Adreno 810 is newer and listed at a higher clock than the Adreno 725. That does not establish better frame rates. Implementation, cooling, drivers and game settings all matter. NanoReview shows 3DMark results for the 7 Plus Gen 2 but none for the 7s Gen 4, so this source cannot name a GPU winner.

Memory and video

The listed memory bandwidth of the 7 Plus Gen 2 is double that of the 7s Gen 4 (51.2 vs 25.6 GB/s). It also lists 4K/60 capture against 4K/30. These are chipset ceilings. Check the actual handset’s RAM configuration and camera app before assuming either.

Benchmark 7 Plus Gen 2 7s Gen 4
AnTuTu 11 1,317,007 (52 samples) 1,041,898 (35 samples)
Geekbench 6 single-core 1,654 (51 tests) 1,223 (15 tests)
Geekbench 6 multi-core 4,217 (51 tests) 3,168 (15 tests)

On these numbers the 7 Plus Gen 2 is roughly 26% ahead on AnTuTu 11, about 35% ahead on single-core Geekbench 6 and about 33% ahead on multi-core, by simple arithmetic on the listed figures. The 7s Gen 4’s Geekbench sample is only 15 tests, so its average is the less stable of the two.

Benchmark results from 91mobiles

91mobiles tells a different story.

Benchmark 7 Plus Gen 2 7s Gen 4
AnTuTu 943,804 (POCO F5 pairing in the summary); the subscore panel marks the chip as N/A 1,176,492 (7s Gen 4 devices)
Geekbench single-core 1,098 1,280
Geekbench multi-core 3,967 3,475

Here the 7s Gen 4 leads AnTuTu and single-core Geekbench, while the 7 Plus Gen 2 still leads multi-core. The AnTuTu direction is the reverse of NanoReview’s. The sources do not say why. Different devices, test versions, software builds, sampling or database methods could each explain it, and nothing available isolates the cause. Note too that 91mobiles’ 7 Plus Gen 2 AnTuTu figure is tied to a single phone, the POCO F5.

How to read the conflict

  • NanoReview’s multi-sample data favors the 7 Plus Gen 2 on every CPU-oriented aggregate it lists.
  • 91mobiles shows newer 7s Gen 4 phones doing better on AnTuTu and single-core Geekbench, with the 7 Plus Gen 2 still ahead on multi-core.
  • Always cite the benchmark, its version, the tested device and the sample size. A number from one site shouldn’t be compared with a number from another.
  • The safest conclusion is that the two are in the same broad upper-midrange class, with the 7 Plus Gen 2 holding a more consistent multi-core edge and the 7s Gen 4 offering newer cores and features.

Which should you choose?

Pick the 7 Plus Gen 2 phone if

  • You care most about multi-core CPU throughput, which both sources favor it on.
  • You want the higher memory bandwidth and 4K/60 video ceiling, and the phone confirms those features.
  • The price is clearly lower than a comparable 7s Gen 4 model.

Pick the 7s Gen 4 phone if

  • You want the newer platform and likely longer software relevance, with Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, Vulkan 1.3 and up to 144 Hz display support per Qualcomm.
  • The specific phone has better cooling, battery, display or camera tuning than the alternative.

Check the phone, not just the chip

Chipset limits are capabilities, not guarantees. Compare the real price, sustained performance and thermals, battery life, RAM and storage type, display, camera implementation, update policy and regional model. The POCO F5 is one example of a 7 Plus Gen 2 handset, according to 91mobiles, but a single phone can’t stand for the whole chip. No named-person quotes or controlled same-software test between the two chips were found, so treat database averages as guidance and review the specific phones you are considering.
