The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 is the stronger chip. In both published comparisons we reviewed, it scores well ahead of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 in AnTuTu and Geekbench, and Qualcomm lists newer graphics, AI and connectivity features for it. The gap is clearest in multi-core and overall scores, not in headline clock speed, because both chips are listed at 4 nm and up to 2.3 GHz. Whether that matters for you depends on the phone, since price, cooling, battery, screen and software support all vary by handset.
Specifications side by side
Specifications below come from Qualcomm’s product pages unless stated. Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 on June 26, 2023, as a value-tier platform, and the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 on February 12, 2025, for the mid-tier.

What the table does and doesn’t tell you
- Clock speed is not performance. The matching 2.3 GHz ceiling hides different core designs, which is why the benchmark gap below is so large. Qualcomm also tells buyers to check the OEM’s own specifications, and the 4 Gen 2 has a slower 2.2 GHz variant, so one chip name can mean different clocks in different phones.
- Peak modem speeds are platform maximums. Real speeds depend on your carrier, bands and signal. Regional radio and band support is set by the phone maker.
- Feature listings are not guarantees. Qualcomm’s gaming features describe what the platform supports; each manufacturer and game decides whether they are used.
Benchmark comparison
Two independent compilations, 91mobiles and NanoReview (both accessed in 2026), show the same direction. Their totals differ because the tests, versions and test devices differ. Geekbench numbers are shown as single-core / multi-core.
| Test | Source | Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 | Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 |
|---|---|---|---|
| AnTuTu | 91mobiles | 478,134 | 764,410 |
| AnTuTu 10 | NanoReview | 427,069 | 757,902 |
| Geekbench | 91mobiles | 952 / 2,261 | 1,100 / 3,097 |
| Geekbench 6 | NanoReview | 918 / 2,121 | 1,091 / 3,085 |
Reading the numbers
- Overall AnTuTu: the 6 Gen 4 is roughly 60% higher in 91mobiles’ figures and roughly 77% higher in NanoReview’s (our arithmetic from the table). The gap is large in both.
- Single-core Geekbench: the lead is modest, about 16% in 91mobiles’ data and about 19% in NanoReview’s. Everyday app responsiveness leans on this, so the difference is noticeable but not dramatic.
- Multi-core Geekbench: the lead is about 37% (91mobiles) to 45% (NanoReview), which shows up in heavy multitasking and demanding workloads.
- Caveat: neither source is a controlled test on identical phone hardware. 91mobiles lists phones such as the POCO M7 (4 Gen 2) and realme P3 (6 Gen 4) as examples, and results depend on the device, cooling and conditions. Treat these as directional, not as scores every phone will hit.
Qualcomm’s own generational claims
Qualcomm’s 6 Gen 4 launch material gives figures against the previous generation of the 6 series, not against the 4 Gen 2, so they do not measure this matchup:
#1 Best Overall
- NEW built-in stylus. Jot notes, edit photos, sketch artwork, and navigate effortlessly with an improved stylus and updated software.
- 6.7" pOLED display and Dolby Atmos. Experience cinema-quality entertainment with over a billion shades of color and multidimensional sound*.
- 50MP Ultra Pixel camera + OIS. Capture sharper low-light photos and smoother videos with an unshakable camera system featuring Optical Image Stabilization.
- 30W TurboPower charging + over a day battery. Get hours of power in just minutes of charging, then work and play with unbelievable battery life**.
- Standout design. Make a statement with its stunning look, modern color, and soft, vegan leather finish.
- 11% better CPU performance, based on Geekbench v6.2 single-thread.
- Up to 29% better GPU performance, based on GFXBench Aztec Ruins.
- 12% power savings, based on Qualcomm internal testing. Qualcomm itself notes that battery life varies significantly by device, settings and usage, so this does not predict battery life in any given phone.
Qualcomm’s Deepu John said the chip “will drive the next leap forward for smartphones in the mid-tier thanks to significant advancements in AI, gaming and photography.” That is a vendor characterization, not an independent finding.
Which should you choose?
Pick a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 phone if
- You play demanding 3D games or want newer graphics API support (Vulkan 1.3).
- You want Wi-Fi 6/6E and a higher listed 5G ceiling.
- You keep phones for several years and want more performance headroom.
A Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 phone can be enough if
- Your use is messaging, social media, browsing, video and light games.
- The price gap is significant. A 4 Gen 2 handset with a better screen, battery or update policy may beat a weaker 6 Gen 4 handset.
Compare the whole phone
Before buying, check price and local availability, update-support policy, RAM and storage, sustained gaming and thermal behavior, battery capacity and charging, display, camera, and network-band support. Qualcomm’s launch materials named Redmi and vivo as 4 Gen 2 adopters, and realme, OPPO and Honor as expected 6 Gen 4 makers. Those are launch-era references, so verify current models and stock in your market.
