There is no universal winner: SmarterASP.NET is the more directly documented fit if you need a newer .NET runtime such as .NET 10, while IONOS documents Windows hosting with ASP.NET 4.8 and .NET 6.0. The right choice depends first on your application’s runtime and deployment requirements. A fair price winner cannot be named from the public figures available: SmarterASP.NET lists its own hosting prices, but the retrieved IONOS prices are for Linux shared hosting, not Windows ASP.NET hosting.
Start with the runtime your application requires
Check the application’s target framework and hosting requirements before comparing features or prices. A framework mismatch can rule out a plan regardless of its other benefits.

| Provider | Documented Windows platform and runtimes | What that means for your choice |
|---|---|---|
| SmarterASP.NET | Windows Server 2022; .NET 10.x, 9.x, 8.x, 7.x, 6.x, 5.x, .NET Core 3.x and 2.x, plus older ASP.NET versions, according to its ASP.NET Core hosting page. | More directly documented for an application that needs a newer .NET version, subject to confirming that the specific purchased plan supports the required deployment. |
| IONOS | Windows Server 2022, ASP.NET 4.8 and .NET 6.0, according to its hosting-solutions overview. | Potential fit for applications compatible with the versions IONOS lists. Confirm exact runtime and framework support for the Windows plan you intend to buy. |
These are provider-published compatibility statements, not independent tests. A list that includes older runtimes does not mean every version is equally suitable for a new deployment; check your application’s support and security requirements as well.

SmarterASP.NET lists Basic at $2.95 per month, Advance at $4.95 per month and Premium at $7.95 per month on its plan comparison. The page also advertises a 60-day trial. Treat these as provider-listed terms, not a guarantee of your checkout total: verify eligibility, billing and renewal terms, plan limits, and any applicable add-ons before signing up.
#1 Best Overall
- 64 bit | 1 Server with 16 or less processor cores | provides 2 VMs
- For physical or minimally virtualized environments
- Requires Windows Server 2025 User and/or Device Client Access Licenses (CALs) | No CALs are included
- Core-based licensing | Additional license packs required for servers with more than 16 processor cores or to add VMs | 2 VMs whenever all processor cores are licensed.
- Product ships in plain envelope | Activation key is located under scratch-off area on label |Beware of counterfeits | Genuine Windows Server software is branded by Microsoft only.
The IONOS US figures returned for comparison belong to Linux container-based shared hosting. They are not prices for Windows ASP.NET hosting, so putting them alongside SmarterASP.NET’s prices would imply a comparison the evidence does not support. The IONOS hosting-solutions overview documents Windows hosting, but a current public US price for that Windows ASP.NET product was not established. Request or verify the price for the exact Windows plan and contract term you need.
IONOS’s 2026 price-adjustment notice concerns affected customers and points them to account correspondence for contract-specific prices. It is not a general quote for a new Windows ASP.NET customer.

Compare deployment and database fit
Deployment workflow
SmarterASP.NET’s plan material lists Web Deploy and GitHub workflow/deployment features. Confirm which are included in the tier you are considering and whether the process fits your build and release workflow. IONOS distinguishes its Windows hosting from its GitHub-based Deploy Now product on its hosting-solutions page; do not assume that Deploy Now and Windows ASP.NET hosting are interchangeable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDatabase requirements
SmarterASP.NET describes SQL Server, MySQL and PostgreSQL features on its ASP.NET Core hosting page, and its plan comparison lists database features. IONOS’s help page identifies MSSQL as a Microsoft technology suited to Windows hosting, but the available material does not establish matching database limits for a like-for-like plan comparison. For either provider, verify the engine and version, database count, remote-access rules, backups, and any extra charges against the plan terms.

Know whether you are buying managed hosting or server control
IONOS describes classic web hosting as shared hosting with provider-managed infrastructure, and contrasts it with root servers that require more technical knowledge. These are different operating models: a self-managed server offers a different level of control and responsibility from shared hosting. Compare equivalent products, and do not treat a root server as a direct substitute for managed Windows hosting if you do not want to administer the server.
IONOS Help puts the platform choice plainly: “Choose Windows web hosting if your project requires Microsoft technologies such as ASP.NET or MSSQL.” See its Windows versus Linux hosting guidance for the provider’s distinction.

How to make the decision
- Write down the exact requirements. Record the target .NET or ASP.NET version, database engine, deployment method, number of sites, storage and resource needs, and any scheduled-task or remote-access requirements.
- Match those requirements to the Windows product. For SmarterASP.NET, check the selected tier’s runtime and feature limits. For IONOS, confirm the Windows plan supports your precise application requirements; do not rely on Linux plan prices or features.
- Compare total contract cost. Check billing term, renewal price, taxes, add-ons, cancellation and refund rules, and whether domain, email and SSL are included. Confirm the current trial terms if considering SmarterASP.NET.
- Test the deployment path. Make sure the documented Web Deploy or GitHub workflow matches your team’s process, and clarify whether staging, backups and database operations are included.
- Assess evidence beyond marketing claims. Ask what service-level terms apply and look for comparable independent uptime, latency and support measurements before treating performance as a deciding factor.
Which host should you choose?
Choose SmarterASP.NET when newer .NET support is the deciding factor
Its reviewed pages explicitly advertise .NET 10 and list several other .NET versions on Windows Server 2022, alongside low listed monthly tiers. That makes it the more directly documented candidate for an application that needs a newer runtime, provided the exact plan supports the required configuration.

Consider IONOS when your application matches its documented Windows stack
IONOS lists Windows Server 2022, ASP.NET 4.8 and .NET 6.0. It can suit an application compatible with those versions, but verify the Windows plan’s limits and current price before deciding.

Neither provider can be declared the overall winner on the available evidence. SmarterASP.NET advertises 99.9% uptime and IONOS’s general web-hosting page advertises 99.99%, but these are provider claims for products that are not directly equivalent—not independently verified, matched availability results. The available material also does not establish a side-by-side performance or support winner.
