Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf your smart TV is buffering, showing a weak signal, or dropping Wi-Fi, start with its network status or connection test. Confirm it is using the right saved network, then try the Wi-Fi band that works best at the TV’s location. Improve the router’s placement or test Ethernet if your TV supports it. These steps address common connection problems without assuming every TV has the same settings or menus.
Check the TV’s network status first
Use the TV’s network status, signal indicator, or connection test if available. Confirm that it is connected to the intended Wi-Fi network and that the saved password is correct. If the TV reports no internet connection, reconnect to the network using the manufacturer’s instructions for your model.

Menu names and paths vary by brand, model, and software version, so there is no reliable universal sequence of buttons to follow. Samsung provides model-specific Wi-Fi troubleshooting, while LG and Roku offer their own connection guidance: Samsung TV Wi-Fi troubleshooting, LG TV internet connection troubleshooting, and Roku Wi-Fi improvement guidance.
Choose the Wi-Fi band that reaches the TV reliably
When the router provides separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, choose based on the TV’s support and the signal where it sits. Neither band is always the better choice: 5 GHz can suit a nearby TV with a strong signal, while 2.4 GHz may reach better through distance and obstacles. Sony notes that 5 GHz availability can vary by region; check your TV’s documentation and available networks before changing bands: Sony’s Wi-Fi connection guide.

Roku Support’s guidance is conditional: “If your router and Roku both support 5 GHz Wi-Fi, switch to that network (usually named something like ‘MyNetwork_5GHz’).” That is Roku-specific advice, not a guarantee that 5 GHz is best for every TV or location. Roku also notes that some Roku models cannot use certain 5 GHz DFS channels. If a supported Roku device cannot see the 5 GHz network, Roku suggests trying channels 36–48 or 149–165 instead of 50–64 or 100–144. Check your router’s controls and your device’s support before changing a channel.
Improve the router-to-TV signal
If the connection is weak or unstable, reduce the distance between the router and TV where practical. Keep the router in an open position rather than inside a cabinet, and reduce obstacles such as walls between it and the TV. Move it away from likely sources of interference, then rerun the TV’s connection check to see whether the signal improves.

- Work with any Ethernet enabled devices: This wireless to Ethernet adapter supports smart TV, game console, blu-ray player, network printer, raspberry pi, Ethernet switch or computer etc., no driver installation or update needed
- AC1200 faster wireless speed: up to 867Mbps on 5GHz WiFi or 300Mbps on 2.4GHz WiFi, excellent for online video streaming, gaming, high quality music and facebook by using this 802.11ac WiFi to Ethernet adapter, 4 X speed of N300
- Universal compatibility: This 5GHz universal wireless adapter works with any 802.11ax/ac/a/b/g/n WiFi routers;
- Better WiFi signal: the Ethernet wireless adapter comes with 2X angle adjustable external smart WiFi antennas which pick up stronger WiFi signal than internal ones
A Wi-Fi extender is not automatically a fix: LG cautions that, depending on the environment, one can lead to slower speeds or an unstable connection. Try placement changes first and check the result before adding equipment. If multiple devices across the home have trouble, investigate router coverage, congestion, or the internet service rather than changing only the TV.
Test Ethernet if the TV has a network port
If your TV has an Ethernet port and you can run a cable to the router, connect it by Ethernet and check whether streaming becomes more stable. A wired connection avoids the TV’s Wi-Fi signal path and is a useful way to distinguish a wireless coverage problem from a broader network or internet issue. Roku describes wired networking as more stable than Wi-Fi on compatible devices, and LG recommends Ethernet for reliability.

- Wifi 6 High-speed Transmission: The WiFi adapter supports the new generation of WiFi6 technology with transmission speeds of up to 600 Mbps on 5 GHz + 287 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, enabling lightning-fast transmission of video at ultra-high speed and low latency
- Dual-band Connection: The AX900 USB WiFi adapter under the AX standard, the 5G band rate can reach 600Mbps, and the 2.4G band can reach 286Mbps. Note: Use WiFi 6 Router to achieve AX900 speed
- Built-in Drivers for Windows 10/11: The WiFi Adapter for Desktop PC just supports Windows 10/11 which CPU architecture is X86/X64, supports CD-free installation, no need to download drivers, saving time and worry. Please note this Adapter doesn't support MacOS/Linux/Win 8, 8.1, 7, XP
- Receive & Transmit Two in One: A desktop computer can connect to the WiFi wireless Internet by connecting it to a wireless network card. A networked computer can connect to the network card to transmit WiFi and share it with other devices
- Stay Safe Online: The wifi dongle supports WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, WPA/WPA2 mixed encryption modes. Note: Make sure that the distance between the adapter and router should be within 30ft
For a compatible TV, use an Ethernet cable that can reach the router safely. Streaming devices may support a compatible Ethernet adapter, but support depends on the exact device; verify compatibility before buying one.
Reconnect or update only when basic checks fail
If the TV is on the wrong network, cannot reconnect, or still fails its connection test after checking the signal, use the manufacturer’s instructions to forget or reset its network connection and set it up again. Update the TV’s software through its supported update process if an update is available. Avoid a factory reset as an early troubleshooting step; it is broader than a network reconnect and the exact recovery process depends on the model.

Use manual DNS for a narrower class of problems
Manual DNS is a targeted option for some app or name-resolution errors, not a general way to improve weak Wi-Fi or make an unstable wireless signal reliable. LG documents how to change DNS on supported TVs, and Samsung includes manual DNS among its troubleshooting options. Follow the instructions for your exact model and change DNS only when the problem points to name resolution or an app-specific connection issue: LG instructions for manually changing DNS.

Check whether the problem is the TV, router, or internet service
If other devices also lose connection or cannot reach the internet, focus on the router or service rather than repeatedly changing TV settings. If only the TV struggles, compare its connection over Wi-Fi and Ethernet if available, and check the router’s distance, obstructions, and congestion. Roku identifies router age, range, and congestion as factors to consider when problems persist; consider a newer router or mesh system only after simpler checks have not resolved a whole-home coverage issue.

As a rough streaming reference, Roku Support UK lists typical connection-speed requirements of 3 Mbps for SD, 5 Mbps for HD, and 25 Mbps or more for 4K Ultra HD. These are Roku’s stated thresholds, not a guarantee for every service; individual streaming apps may have their own requirements. A speed shortfall can affect playback even when the TV shows that it is connected: Roku guidance on checking a network connection.
