Skyrealm: Descent is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1. Install the latest listed release, Beta 2.0.0, in a separate instance using Forge 47.4.0, and keep client and server files on exactly the same release. The pack is still an unfinished public beta, so back up every world and treat exploration beyond Chapter 1 as experimental.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
Important beta warning: The official listing says, “SKYREALM: DESCENT IS CURRENTLY IN PUBLIC BETA TESTING” and that “ALL CONTENT BEYOND ‘CHAPTER 1: THE SKY’ IS STILL IN EARLY DEVELOPMENT.” It warns that exploring the Overworld, Nether, and Void dimensions may cause soft-locking. Do not use your only copy of an important save.

What Skyrealm: Descent is
Skyrealm: Descent is an RPG adventure pack by HazardousDaniel built around a journey from the clouds toward increasingly dangerous depths. Its description frames the story as a descent through a corrupted Overworld and several altered or new dimensions. Chapter 1: The Sky is the portion identified as available for beta testing; later chapters remain planned or in development.
The pack changes both exploration and ordinary Minecraft progression. The listed features include a Skyrealm dimension, flying and rideable creatures, copper tools, a kiln, a shaped blast furnace, changed Overworld generation, dangerous cave biomes, and Nether access through bedrock rifts instead of standard Nether portals.

| Minecraft version | 1.20.1 |
| Mod loader | Forge 47.4.0 for the selected release |
| Mods in the selected pack file | 82, according to the Modpacks.ch listing; this is a file-content count, not a memory recommendation |
| Development status | Public beta; content after Chapter 1 is early development |
Launcher metadata can change when a creator publishes a new file. Before creating a world or server, confirm that the launcher, pack manifest, Minecraft version, and Forge version all refer to the same release.
What the beta warning means for your world
A soft lock is a state in which a world or progression path can no longer be completed normally, even though the game still starts. The warning is especially relevant to the Overworld, Nether, and Void dimensions, where unfinished generation or progression may leave you without a usable route forward.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Keep the original world folder untouched and play from a copy.
- Make a manual backup before entering a new dimension, changing the pack version, or installing additional mods.
- Expect missing recipes, unstable terrain, incomplete quests, or progression stops outside Chapter 1.
- Do not assume a later beta file can safely open an older save; copy the save first and test the update separately.
The roadmap identifies Chapter 1: The Sky as the available beta-testing chapter. If you want the most predictable experience, concentrate on that chapter and regard later areas as testing content rather than a finished campaign.
Install Skyrealm: Descent on a client
Use a launcher that can import a modpack manifest and preserve its overrides, configuration files, and dependency list. Installing individual mods by hand can produce a different game from the published pack.

1. Create an isolated instance
- Open your modded-Minecraft launcher and choose the option to create or import a new instance.
- Select Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Choose the Forge loader and set it to 47.4.0 for Beta 2.0.0.
- Name the instance something unambiguous, such as
Skyrealm Descent Beta 2.0.0. - Store it separately from vanilla saves and from other modpacks. Do not point several instances at one shared game directory.
2. Import the published pack
- Use the launcher’s modpack import or installation function and select the Beta 2.0.0 pack release.
- Allow the launcher to install the manifest’s mods, overrides, configurations, and dependencies.
- Do not remove a mod merely because its name is unfamiliar. The pack’s 82-mod count describes the selected file and individual components may depend on one another.
- Wait for installation to finish before changing graphics, performance, or server settings.
3. Launch and verify
- Start the instance once with no personal mods or shader loaders added.
- At the title screen, check that the game reports Minecraft 1.20.1 and that Forge is the active loader.
- Open the installed-mod list and confirm that it resembles the published pack rather than an empty or partially imported instance.
- Create a temporary test world. Load it, enter the game, and quit cleanly before copying an important save into the instance.
If the launcher refuses to start, first compare the selected Minecraft and Forge versions with the pack metadata. A generic Forge profile or a different 1.20.1 build is not automatically equivalent to the pack’s specified 47.4.0 loader.
What to expect when you start playing
A descent-based campaign
The intended route begins in the Skyrealm and moves downward through altered environments toward a corrupted Overworld and deeper dimensions. This vertical structure is more than a visual theme: the pack changes the order in which familiar resources, travel methods, and dimensions become relevant.

New and altered dimensions
The project describes four new or overhauled dimensions. The Skyrealm is the opening destination, while the Overworld, Nether, and Void are part of the broader descent and are subject to the beta warning. Generation changes and dangerous cave biomes mean that terrain knowledge from an unmodded 1.20.1 world is not a reliable safety plan.
Changed crafting and processing
Progression includes copper tools and new processing blocks. A kiln and a shaped blast furnace are specifically listed features, so recipes and production chains may not follow vanilla assumptions. Read the in-game recipe information supplied by the pack before discarding unfamiliar materials.

Travel and creatures
Flying and rideable creatures provide movement options that are unusual for a standard survival start. Treat them as part of the pack’s progression rather than assuming every creature or mount is available immediately.
Nether access
Nether progression uses bedrock rifts instead of ordinary Nether portals. Building a conventional portal is therefore not a dependable way to reach the Nether in this pack. Follow the pack’s progression and look for the rift-based route when the story directs you there.

A dedicated server must match the client in three ways: the Skyrealm: Descent release, Minecraft 1.20.1, and Forge 47.4.0. A client installation folder is not automatically a server package. The pack guidance explicitly warns against uploading the ordinary client folder blindly.
Files and prerequisites
- A server package or server-generation method that explicitly identifies Skyrealm: Descent Beta 2.0.0.
- Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge 47.4.0 on the server.
- The pack manifest, overrides, configuration files, and all required dependencies.
- A machine or hosting plan sized for the number of players, world-generation load, view distance, and any other services sharing the machine.
- A backup location separate from the live world directory.
The available pack information does not publish a defensible minimum RAM figure. The presence of 82 mods is not a hardware specification, so do not convert that count into a made-up number of gigabytes.

- Fight your way through an all-new action-adventure game, inspired by classic dungeon crawlers and set in the Minecraft universe!
- Play with up to four friends or brave the dungeons alone. Battle new-and-nasty mobs across action-packed, wildly varied levels, in a quest to defeat the evil Arch-Illager!
Recommended installation sequence
- Obtain the matching server files. Generate or download a package that names Beta 2.0.0, Minecraft 1.20.1, and Forge 47.4.0. If a host offers only a different pack version, stop and verify compatibility before creating a world.
- Copy the complete pack structure. Preserve the manifest-derived mod list, overrides, configuration files, and dependencies. Do not replace the server’s files with a random client directory.
- Start once. Run the server with its normal launch command and watch the log for missing files, dependency errors, or an incorrect Forge version.
- Accept the EULA when required. If the first run creates an EULA file, review and accept it according to Minecraft’s terms, then start the server again.
- Stop cleanly. Use the server’s stop command rather than killing the process. This lets it finish writing configuration and world data.
- Configure before importing a save. Set the server name, access controls, difficulty, view distance, and other settings only after the base pack has started successfully. Avoid changing mod configuration until you know the unmodified pack works.
- Test a fresh world. Join with a client using the identical release and loader. Check spawning, terrain generation, recipes, dimension access, and a short save-and-restart cycle.
- Install the real world last. Stop the server, make a complete backup, and then copy in an existing save. Keep the untouched original elsewhere.
Make every player match
Each player should use the same Skyrealm: Descent release, Minecraft version, Forge loader, and pack files. Missing-mod and connection errors commonly result from a client that was updated independently, contains extra mods, or uses a different loader build.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11How much RAM does the server need?
No official minimum RAM number is established for Skyrealm: Descent. The correct allocation depends on factors the pack listing does not quantify:
- Concurrent player count and how far apart players travel.
- New-chunk generation, especially in changed Overworld and cave terrain.
- View and simulation distances.
- Whether the same machine runs a control panel, backup job, database, or other game servers.
- Operating-system and Java overhead in addition to the memory available to the Minecraft process.
Start with a conservative allocation appropriate to your player count, then observe the server’s memory use and tick timings while several players explore. Increase resources when the process is repeatedly constrained during generation or when other services compete for memory. Avoid treating a provider’s advertised RAM tier as a guarantee of performance; processor speed, storage latency, and network location also matter.

| Approach | Advantages | Trade-offs and checks |
|---|---|---|
| Self-hosted server | Maximum control over files, launch options, backups, and updates; no hosting subscription | You manage installation, security, network access, monitoring, hardware capacity, and recovery |
| Managed host with one-click pack | Faster deployment, control panel, provider backups or monitoring, and support | Recurring cost; less control over Java flags and filesystem; one-click catalog may lag behind Beta 2.0.0 |
| Temporary trial or promotional host | Useful for testing a small group without a long commitment | Confirm the trial’s limits, retention policy, location, and supported pack version before moving a real save |
Advertised one-click options
Ouiheberg advertises one-click Skyrealm: Descent installation, 8 GB and 12 GB plans, backups, DDoS protection, multiple locations, and 24/7 support. Those are provider claims and displayed prices or plan details can change; verify that its catalog entry is Beta 2.0.0 with Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge 47.4.0 before ordering.
Kinetic Hosting advertises one-click installation, tested modpacks, crash detection, backups, monitoring, human support, and RAM tiers from 4 GB through 64 GB. “Tested modpacks” does not by itself prove that the current Beta 2.0.0 file is the one installed, so check the version shown in the control panel.
Spot.gg lists a Skyrealm: Descent page with a 24-hour free trial and a listed version 1.0.6. Treat that as a promotional alternative only until you confirm which pack release it supplies. Version 1.0.6 should not be assumed to match Beta 2.0.0, and you should not place an established world on it without checking compatibility and backup behavior.
Provider availability, prices, support coverage, and promotional terms can change. No one-click service should be considered compatible solely because the pack name appears in a catalog.
Troubleshoot common installation and server problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Launcher crashes before the title screen | Wrong Minecraft version, wrong Forge build, incomplete manifest import, or an extra mod | Recreate a clean 1.20.1 instance, select Forge 47.4.0, reinstall Beta 2.0.0, and test before adding custom files |
| “Missing mods” or connection rejection | Client and server do not use the same release, loader, or mod list | Compare the exact pack file and Forge version on both sides; remove unsanctioned client-only changes |
| Server stops during first launch | Incomplete server package, dependency error, or EULA not accepted | Read the first error in the log, confirm the server package is not a copied client folder, address the EULA prompt, and restart cleanly |
| World generates strangely or exploration stops | Known beta instability or a save created under another pack version | Stop testing that copy, restore the last backup, and reproduce the issue in a disposable world |
| Nether portal does nothing useful | The pack replaces ordinary portal progression with bedrock rifts | Follow the pack’s rift-based progression instead of relying on vanilla portal construction |
| Lag while exploring new terrain | Chunk generation and view distance are exceeding available CPU, memory, or storage capacity | Lower view or simulation distance, reduce simultaneous exploration, monitor resource use, and add capacity only after identifying the bottleneck |
Backups, updates, and safe maintenance
Before every change
- Stop the server or quit the client completely.
- Copy the entire world directory, not just individual region files.
- Record the pack release, Minecraft version, Forge version, and date in the backup name.
- Keep at least one backup away from the live machine.
When updating the pack
- Read the newer release notes and check whether the creator marks it as compatible with existing worlds.
- Duplicate the current instance and world rather than upgrading the only copy.
- Update the duplicate, launch it, and test terrain, recipes, dimensions, and server joins.
- Only migrate players after the test copy survives a restart and backup restore.
When rolling back
Restore both the matching pack files and the matching world backup. Opening a world in a newer pack and then loading it with older files can leave data that the older version cannot interpret safely.

Quick Recap
Quick decision checklist
- Choose Beta 2.0.0 unless you have a specific reason to use another release.
- Use Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.4.0.
- Install into a separate instance and preserve the published manifest and overrides.
- Back up worlds before entering unfinished dimensions or changing versions.
- For servers, use a real matching server package rather than uploading a client folder.
- Make every player match the server’s pack release and loader.
- Size hardware from observed player count and world-generation load; 82 mods is not a RAM requirement.
- Verify the exact release behind any one-click host listing before paying or importing a save.
