Skyline is a small, open-source Go command-line tool that turns your GitHub contribution history into a terminal cityscape or an SVG you can embed in a profile README. Install it with Go, then run it with your GitHub username; the default view renders 53 recent weeks in 106 columns.
How Skyline turns activity into a city
Each week becomes a building, and each of its seven days becomes a window. A day with no contributions stays dark; activity lights the window, with brighter colors marking higher contribution levels. The building heights use a logarithmic scale, so one unusually busy week does not make the rest of the skyline look flat. The busiest week gets an antenna, and month labels appear below the buildings.

Stars and SVG flicker are deterministic for the same input data. The result is a playful picture of activity, not a score for code quality or impact: a taller building means a busier week under Skyline’s visualization rules.

Install Skyline and render your graph
The project documents Go 1.25 or newer and a GitHub token as requirements. Skyline checks GITHUB_TOKEN, then GH_TOKEN, and then tries gh auth token, which can use an existing GitHub CLI login.

The README lists 12 themes: neon (the default), synthwave, matrix, amber, ice, sunset, toxic, vapor, crimson, mono, prism, and rainbow. These are the options documented by the project in 2026; check the README for current flags and palettes before relying on them.
Put an automatically updated skyline in a profile README
A GitHub profile README lives in a repository named exactly after the account username. Skyline provides an example GitHub Actions workflow that regenerates an SVG on a schedule and publishes it to a separate output branch. Its example schedule runs nightly at 03:17 UTC, using the cron expression 17 3 * * *.

Private contribution activity may be missing
If the generated skyline appears emptier than the contribution activity shown when you are logged in, the project suggests trying a classic personal access token with read:user, stored as a repository secret named SKYLINE_TOKEN. This is the project author’s troubleshooting guidance; token behavior can depend on GitHub’s current settings, so it is not a guarantee that the change will expose every private contribution.

Terminal color support affects the palette
Truecolor support is needed for the full palette. Without it, the project says Lip Gloss downsamples colors, so the terminal display may look less vivid.
SVG appearance depends on fonts and motion settings
The SVG uses text glyphs and is displayed with a system monospace font. Some minimal fonts may substitute glyphs. Animation is disabled for viewers whose system or browser indicates prefers-reduced-motion.
