Sky’s upcoming interface refresh is for existing Sky Glass and Sky Stream devices, and the preview points to simpler routes to live TV, recordings and recommendations. It is still a preview and trial rollout, however: as of October 3, 2026, there is no confirmed date for general release to every customer.
What is Sky OS 2.0?
Sky OS 2.0 is the name used in a Sky Community discussion for a software and interface refresh for Sky Glass and Sky Stream. T3 published the first detailed feature account after a hands-on preview on September 30, 2026. The report describes a redesigned front end, not a requirement to buy new hardware.

The details below describe what T3 saw; names and behavior may change before a wider release. The practical question for owners is whether their device is in scope: the preview covers Sky Glass and Sky Stream, but it does not establish a general-release date or confirm that every customer has received the update.
What changes in the interface?
A top menu and a more curated Home screen
The preview shows a transparent top menu with Home, TV Guide, My Library, Sport, My Account, text search and settings, plus a shortcut called Recents. Home is described as moving away from simply foregrounding the selected app or programme: it rotates curated content, with a larger trailer view available by navigating upward.

Recents is intended to bring together Continue Watching, recently visited channels and recently opened apps. T3 notes that the label may change, so it should not be treated as a final interface name.
TV Guide and My Library
Pressing right on the remote opens TV Guide in the preview. Channel icons are used, and viewers can move directly into live television or choose a future programme to record, reducing the steps between browsing and those actions.

My Library replaces Playlist and is intended to gather Watchlist items and recordings. The preview also shows options to follow actors and sports teams so related recommendations can surface there.

T3 describes choosing a future programme in the electronic programme guide and selecting Record Show, Record Series or Watchlist. Recordings are held on Sky’s cloud servers rather than a local hard drive. Sky’s reported storage capacity is 1,000 hours, according to T3’s 2026 preview; the report does not establish a retention period.

Recording is not available on every channel. T3 gives BBC programmes as an example: they remain available to add to Watchlist and watch through iPlayer, rather than record through Sky’s feature. The report says Sky’s own channels, including Sky Sports, are recordable. Check the option shown for a specific programme rather than assuming the whole guide supports recording.
What Smart Voice can do
The preview presents Smart Voice as an entertainment discovery and Sky-service assistant, not a general-purpose chatbot. In T3’s demonstrations, a description of Tom Hanks stranded on an island led it to identify Cast Away; it then answered a follow-up question about awards. Asked when Celebrity Traitors would air, it opened the programme page so it could be saved to Watchlist.

T3 says programme information may draw on sources such as Wikipedia and that answers appear at the top of the screen. These are demonstrations reported by the journalist, not independent checks of accuracy or a guarantee that every query or feature will be available in the final software.
When will the update arrive?
There are two different timelines in the available reports, and neither confirms a public release date for all customers. On August 25, 2026, Sky Community Manager Kev posted that opted-in trial participants would begin moving to the new SkyOS on September 15 in stages, with all trial participants expected to be updated by the end of September. The post was edited September 15. That schedule concerns the trial group only.

T3 reported on September 30 that a select group of Sky Glass owners was already in a public trial and that the first software update was expected before the end of 2026. It also said readers could not then sign up to test the features. As of October 3, 2026, these reports do not establish when every eligible Sky Glass or Sky Stream owner will receive the software. For account-specific notices, check Sky’s current communications.
Sky Go is a separate update
A redesigned Sky Go app is related platform news, but it is not the Sky Glass and Sky Stream operating-system refresh. Broadband TV News reported on September 8, 2026 that the app update for Sky Glass and Sky Stream customers had launched on iOS and Android, with a laptop version expected later. It described Home, TV Guide, My Library, Sport and Search areas, resuming a programme started on TV, Full HD streaming and remote recording schedules. Sky Q customers were reported to remain on the existing Sky Go (Q/+) app.
Carli Kerr, Managing Director of Sky TV & NOW, said of the app refresh: “Great entertainment should fit around customers’ lives.” That statement was about Sky Go, not specifically the television OS facelift.

What Sky Glass and Sky Stream owners should watch for
- Device: the described OS refresh is for Sky Glass and Sky Stream; the sources do not say new hardware is needed.
- Navigation: look for the top menu, TV Guide, My Library and Recents if and when the update reaches your device.
- Recording: confirm a programme offers a recording option; channel support is not universal.
- Availability: distinguish a trial notice or preview from a general release. The public rollout date remains unconfirmed in the cited reports.
