If you want a very small e-reader, the BOOX Picco is not the only option—but “small” covers different compromises. The XTEINK X4 is the pocket-first alternative, the BOOX Palma 2 pairs a phone-shaped body with a larger screen, and the Kobo Clara BW is a conventional 6-inch reader. The X4’s production has ended, so treat it as an option only if you can verify stock and support where you live.
How small is the BOOX Picco?
BOOX lists the Picco’s screen at 3.97 inches and its body at 105.5 × 62 × 5.5 mm. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of reading comfort or performance. Use them as a size reference: all three alternatives below have larger listed screens, so none is a like-for-like screen-size replacement.
Compare the three alternatives
| Reader | Screen and resolution | Body and weight | Lighting and controls | Storage and content | Water resistance | Availability caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XTEINK X4 | 4.3 inches, 220 PPI, per XTEINK’s regional product reference | 114 × 69 × 5.9 mm; 77 g, per that reference | Front lighting: not stated in the cited XTEINK reference; physical page-turn buttons | 16GB with microSD support; EPUB, TXT and image formats, per the regional reference | Not stated in the cited XTEINK reference | XTEINK says original X4 production ended in August 2026, with no restock forecast; local stock is not established |
| BOOX Palma 2 | 6.13 inches; resolution not stated on the cited BOOX product page | 159 × 80 × 8.0 mm; weight not stated on the cited BOOX product page | Front lighting and physical controls: not stated in the cited BOOX product page | Storage and supported formats: not stated in the cited BOOX product page | Not stated in the cited BOOX product page | Regional availability is not established by the cited BOOX product page |
| Kobo Clara BW | 6-inch Carta 1300 HD; 1448 × 1072 resolution on Kobo’s UK specification page | Body dimensions and weight: not stated on the cited Kobo specification pages | Front lighting and physical controls: not stated on the cited Kobo specification pages | 16GB, per Kobo’s product page; formats not stated on the cited specification pages | Waterproof protection, per Kobo’s product page | Features can differ by region; the cited resolution and USB-C details are from the UK specification page |
BOOX’s and Kobo’s cited pages do not establish every comparison field shown as “not stated.” Those entries should not be read as proof that a feature is absent. The cited specifications also do not provide a consistent independent test of speed, battery life, reading comfort or value, so this comparison sticks to listed product details.
Choose the XTEINK X4 only if pocketability comes first
Among the three alternatives, the X4 has the smallest listed body and weight: 114 × 69 × 5.9 mm and 77 g in XTEINK’s regional product reference. Its 4.3-inch, 220 PPI screen is larger than the Picco’s listed 3.97-inch screen, while physical page-turn buttons and microSD support are useful distinctions for readers who want tactile controls or expandable storage.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The catch is decisive: XTEINK says original X4 production ended in August 2026 and gives no restock forecast. That statement does not prove that every retailer or region is out of stock, but it does mean you should not assume new units are generally available. Before buying, check that the seller has stock, is authorized, offers clear return terms and warranty coverage, and can provide current firmware and support information. The regional product reference is not proof that a particular configuration is sold in your market.
Choose the BOOX Palma 2 for a bigger phone-shaped screen
BOOX lists the Palma 2 at 6.13 inches and 159 × 80 × 8.0 mm. Its phone-shaped format may suit someone who wants a mobile-device shape but considers the Picco’s 3.97-inch screen too small. The trade-off is straightforward: it is substantially larger in both screen diagonal and listed body dimensions, so it is not the choice here for the smallest possible reader.

The cited BOOX product page does not establish the Palma 2’s weight, resolution, storage, supported formats, lighting, controls, water resistance or regional stock. Check the specifications for the exact version offered where you plan to buy rather than assuming those details from the form factor.
Choose the Kobo Clara BW for a conventional 6-inch reader
Kobo describes the Clara BW as a 6-inch Carta 1300 HD e-reader with 16GB of storage and waterproof protection. Kobo’s UK specification page lists a 1448 × 1072 resolution and USB-C. It is a compact conventional reader, not a pocket-sized, same-screen-size replacement for the Picco.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which one fits your priorities?
- Smallest listed body and lightest listed weight: XTEINK X4, with the important qualification that production ended in August 2026 and current local stock is uncertain.
- Phone-shaped device with a larger screen: BOOX Palma 2, at 6.13 inches and 159 × 80 × 8.0 mm according to BOOX.
- Traditional 6-inch reader with cited waterproof protection: Kobo Clara BW, with regional specification differences to verify.
If you are comparing these with a larger e-reader you already own, decide first whether pocketability or a more spacious screen matters more. A single reader’s comment about looking for the “tiniest ereader” illustrates that preference, but it is not evidence of a broader buying trend.
