SiteOrigin Page Builder is a free WordPress plugin for building page layouts from rows, columns and widgets. It may suit site owners who want a grid-based way to arrange content while keeping their theme in control of its presentation. SiteOrigin also sells an optional Premium subscription for addons, updates and priority support; whether those extras are worthwhile depends on the features and support your site needs.
What SiteOrigin Page Builder does
The plugin provides a structural editor for placing widgets into rows and columns. SiteOrigin says its responsive grid adapts layouts for different screen sizes, integrates with the Block Editor and works with WordPress themes. The theme continues to influence how the finished page looks; Page Builder is primarily the layout layer.

SiteOrigin also describes its output as clean and lightweight and promotes developer hooks and filters. Those are vendor claims, not independent performance findings. No controlled speed, accessibility or competitor comparison is established here, so treat performance as something to measure on your own pages rather than a guaranteed benefit.
What you get for free
SiteOrigin describes Page Builder as a free plugin, with its core layout functionality available without a Premium subscription. Its general licensing page says free plugins can be used on any number of websites. The product page lists WordPress 5.0+ and PHP 7.4+ as requirements; these are the publisher’s stated requirements, not a guarantee that every combination of theme, plugins and hosting will work.
#1 Best Overall
SiteOrigin’s product page displayed 500K+ active installs and a 4.8/5 rating from 1,004 reviews when accessed October 4, 2026. Its homepage displayed 400,000+ active installs on the same access date. The pages do not explain the difference, so these should be read as separate publisher-displayed figures, not as an independently verified install count or trend.
What Premium adds and what it costs
SiteOrigin’s Premium page listed 45 addons, updates and priority email support as subscription benefits. The page-listed annual prices below were accessed October 4, 2026; prices and offers can change.

|---|---|---|
| Personal | $29/year | 1 site |
| Business | $49/year | Up to 5 sites |
| Developer | $99/year | Unlimited sites |
The Premium page also advertised a 60-day money-back guarantee at the time accessed. Check the current checkout terms before purchasing. Premium is most relevant if one or more listed addons solve a specific need, or if continued addon updates and priority email support justify an annual subscription. If the free layout tools meet your needs, the available evidence does not suggest you must pay to use the core plugin.
What happens when Premium expires
SiteOrigin’s licensing page says existing content remains when a Premium subscription ends. Premium addons stop receiving updates and support ends; free plugins are unaffected. That distinction matters for sites where ongoing compatibility maintenance or help is important.

Compatibility and performance: check your own setup
The product page’s stated WordPress and PHP requirements are not the same as a compatibility guarantee. WordPress.org search output showed a Page Builder 2.34.5 changelog entry dated July 1, 2026, and a tested-up-to tag of WordPress 7.1. A changelog entry and tested-up-to label are signals, not proof that a particular theme, plugin stack or hosting environment will behave correctly. Check the current plugin listing and test on a staging copy before deploying to a live site.
To evaluate suitability, build representative pages using your actual theme and plugins, then inspect responsive behavior, accessibility, front-end output and performance. If comparing it with another builder, use the same content and site conditions; there is no controlled comparison here supporting claims that Page Builder is faster, lighter or easier than a named alternative. Also consider what happens to the layout if you disable the plugin, and whether its editing workflow fits the people who maintain your site.
Rank #4
Licensing information is inconsistent
SiteOrigin’s product page identifies Page Builder as GPLv2, and its general licensing page says its free plugins are GPL 2.0. A separate Page Builder licensing page instead says GPL 3.0. These statements conflict. If the exact license affects your technical or commercial decision, inspect the license.txt file in the current plugin package and note the version you checked rather than relying on one of those web pages alone.

SiteOrigin Page Builder is worth considering if you want a free, widget-based grid layout tool and are comfortable validating it with your own theme and plugin stack. Premium is an optional annual purchase for users who need its addons, updates or priority support. The published information describes the product and its terms, but does not establish independent performance results or universal compatibility—so make the decision with a staging-site check, not a speed or compatibility promise.
