A browser page such as chrome://settings is generally protected from extensions by the browser; changing SingleFileZ’s access to ordinary websites will not unlock it. A regular website or a local file:// page is a different case and may involve site permissions, administrator policy, or local-file access.
Why can’t SingleFileZ access this page?
Browsers restrict extensions on some pages as a security boundary. SingleFileZ’s FAQ says browsers block extensions on certain domains for security purposes; Chromium says pages using the chrome: scheme, including chrome://settings, are generally protected from extensions reading or changing their contents by default.

That means the error may not indicate a broken installation or a permission you can enable in SingleFileZ. Identify the address type before changing settings:
| Address or situation | What it means | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
Browser-internal URL such as chrome://settings |
The browser generally prevents extensions from accessing its own interface. | Use the browser’s controls directly, or capture information by a method the page itself permits. |
| Browser add-on or extension-store page | Some store domains are restricted to extensions. SingleFileZ documents this kind of restriction, including a Mozilla Add-ons example. | Do not assume granting ordinary website access will override the store’s restriction. |
| Ordinary website | The extension may lack permission for that site, or an administrator may restrict extension access. | Check the extension’s site access and, on a managed browser, ask the administrator about policy. |
Local file:// page or saved file |
Local-file permissions and opening a saved artifact are separate from access to browser UI. | Review the browser’s local-file permission and the product-specific viewing requirements. |
How do I save a browser-protected page?
You generally cannot make SingleFileZ save a browser-internal page that the browser does not expose to extensions. Use the browser-provided interface for the task, or preserve only information that is visible and that you are permitted to copy into a regular document. Avoid disabling browser protections or relying on undocumented launch flags as a routine workaround.
#1 Best Overall
Why can’t I save this page with SingleFileZ if it is a normal website?
Check the extension’s site access
Confirm SingleFileZ is enabled, then inspect the browser’s extension site-access controls. In Microsoft Edge, access can be set to require a click, apply on the current site, or apply on all sites. The exact choices and labels can change with browser versions.
Check whether the browser is managed
In an organization-managed Chrome installation, an administrator can configure URL patterns that block or allow apps and extensions from altering webpages. If the setting is controlled or the failure affects a work-managed browser, contact the administrator rather than trying to bypass policy. Such website policies do not grant access to Chrome’s protected internal pages.

Will allowing access to file URLs fix this?
No—not for a protected browser page. Edge’s “Allow access to file URLs” permission concerns local files; it is not a general override for chrome:// pages or restricted store pages. Grant it only if you need extension access to local files and understand that it expands what the extension can access.
Also distinguish saving a page from opening the saved result. SingleFileZ says JavaScript must be enabled to open saved pages. It also documents a Chrome-specific requirement for viewing files saved on the filesystem. If saving completed but the file will not open, troubleshoot the viewer and local-file access instead of treating it as a protected-page capture failure.

What if SingleFileZ saved the page but the result is incomplete?
SingleFileZ documents settings that trade processing speed for omitting frames or deferred images. If an output is missing content, review those settings and consider whether the page relies on frames or images loaded later. A slow or complex page may take longer to process; changing a speed-oriented setting can affect what is included, so check the saved artifact after adjusting it.
Or skip the browser setup
For a publicly accessible website, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API. It cannot capture browser UI such as chrome://settings or override a page the browser or site protects; use it for ordinary web pages you are allowed to capture.
Cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents, and the free plan includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

- Treating every failure as a missing permission: first identify whether the URL is browser UI, a store page, a normal website, or a local file.
- Enabling file access to reach
chrome://pages: these are separate access boundaries; local-file permission does not unlock browser UI. - Changing Chrome Enterprise settings as an end user: URL access policies may be administrator-controlled; request help from the organization’s administrator.
- Confusing capture with viewing: if the saved file exists but does not open, check JavaScript and the browser’s filesystem viewing requirements documented by SingleFileZ.
- Assuming a screenshot service can capture browser chrome: web screenshot APIs capture webpages, not protected browser settings interfaces.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does SingleFileZ have a setting to allow access to every browser page?
No general setting is established for overriding browser protections on internal pages. Browser site-access permissions for ordinary websites are a separate matter.
Is SingleFile the same extension as SingleFileZ?
No. Their documentation describes related local-file behavior, but settings and instructions should be attributed to the specific extension you use.
