Check the space around your iPhone’s port before choosing it. Shure says the mic fits flush, and a snug or bulky case can interfere with a direct connection. If you need more clearance or want a mounted rig, a cable-connected setup may suit you better.
2. Shure MV88+ Video Kit: a mounted setup with Lightning support
The MV88+ Video Kit is the most complete phone-mount option among these picks. Shure lists a Manfrotto PIXI mini tripod, phone clamp, shoe mount, USB-C and Lightning cables, and a headphone output. Its five DSP presets include Singing; the product page also lists 24-bit/48 kHz capture and app controls for gain, stereo width and recording. Choose this kit if you want the phone supported on a tripod, have a Lightning iPhone, or would rather connect by cable than attach a mic directly to the port. Shure says to use the supplied cable when case fit makes direct plugging inconvenient. The company describes compatibility broadly across iOS and other devices; check the current MOTIV app requirements for your specific iPhone and operating-system version before buying.

The iRig Mic HD 2 is a digital handheld condenser microphone intended for speech, vocals and instruments. It has a cardioid capsule, onboard gain and a headphone output for direct monitoring. IK lists Lightning and USB cables in the package, so it is a candidate for singers who want to hold a microphone rather than sing into one attached to the phone. IK’s product page specifies 24-bit recording at sample rates up to 96 kHz. A higher sample-rate specification by itself does not establish better audible results.

4. IK Multimedia iRig Mic Lav: a hands-free alternative
The iRig Mic Lav is a clip-on lavalier, not a handheld singing mic. Its omnidirectional pickup and clothing-mounted form can suit hands-free vocal clips or a recording with two people. IK says two lavs can be chained to one device. It uses an analog 1/8-inch TRRS output, so compatibility depends on the phone’s input path and adapter. IK’s product page describes the mic and connection.
For USB-C iPhones, IK says its TRRS devices can work with Apple’s USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter, but calls that route less ideal and suggests a digital iRig for USB-C iOS devices. Confirm the exact adapter and phone compatibility before purchase; do not assume every iPhone supports the lav directly.

How to choose by port, form and recording style
Start with the iPhone connector
- USB-C: The MV88 USB-C is a direct-plug option. The MV88+ kit includes a USB-C cable, and the iRig Mic HD 2 package includes USB and Lightning cables. Check case clearance for the direct-plug mic.
- Lightning: The MV88+ kit includes a Lightning cable, as does the iRig Mic HD 2 package. Check the kit contents and compatibility for the model you are buying.
- Analog lavalier: The iRig Mic Lav’s TRRS plug may require an adapter path. Compatibility is not universal, particularly when connecting to USB-C.
Decide how you want to use the mic
- Hold it: Choose the iRig Mic HD 2’s handheld form if that is how you prefer to sing.
- Mount the phone: The MV88+ kit includes a clamp and tripod, so the phone can stay supported while you record.
