How the Upper Brae tape puzzle works
The puzzle is in 5 Upper Brae, in the Clara Woods section of Silent Hill: Townfall. The transcription player changes the house’s state when you play a different tape. Items and clues become available in different states, so collect the tapes and notes before trying to open the safe.
The walkthrough sequence uses Today, Yesterday, Tomorrow, and Do Not Play. Follow the steps in order; the key dependency for the code is opening Current Count on the upstairs computer while the house is in Yesterday.

- Experienced entirely in first person, explore, evade, and survive using a limited set of weapons and tools, including a pocket television used to tune into unstable signals. Evasion is tense; combat is frenetic, while narrative driven puzzles reveal a truth that refuses to stay submerged.
- SILENT HILL: Townfall is a full-length, self-contained psychological horror set against the cold, isolated backdrop of Scotland, 1996
How to collect the tapes, notes, and Ammonite Disk
- Start in Today. In the upstairs room with the transcription player, read The Code Today, then interact with the player to remove or play Today.
- Switch to Yesterday. Find Tape: Yesterday in the upstairs bedroom container and play it. Move to the downstairs living room and collect Tape: Tomorrow from the box; read The Code Before in the kitchen.
- Switch to Tomorrow. Read The Code After and collect Tape: Do Not Play from the kitchen box. The exact order of those pickups can vary by walkthrough description; the important dependency is to gather the notes and tapes as you move through the house’s states.
- Play Do Not Play. Take the Back Door Key from the kitchen counter.
- Return to Today. Use the back door and collect the Ammonite Disk from the area outside the house. Walkthroughs differ on the precise landmark, describing it as a garden shed, alley, or open doorway, so use the state and back-door route rather than relying on one disputed location description.
How to get the safe code
- Play Yesterday at the transcription player.
- Insert the Ammonite Disk into the reader beside the upstairs computer.
- Open the computer file named Current Count. Its clue indicates the number between the two figures in the notes: 129.
The disk and the Yesterday state are both required for this computer clue. If Current Count is unavailable, check which tape is playing and whether the disk is in your inventory.
