Trace the stale image to the layer serving it
A screenshot can pass through several separate caches before it appears on a page. A new capture at the screenshot service does not necessarily replace a thumbnail saved by Drupal or an application, and a changed file may still be hidden by a browser or delivery cache. Treat these as separate layers rather than assuming that one refresh action clears them all.

- Drupal module: Check the ShrinkTheWeb Screenshot Thumbnails settings for the thumbnail folder and the number of days cached images remain unchanged.
- Upstream capture: Establish whether the image returned by ShrinkTheWeb has actually changed. Use the current documentation for your account; the available ShrinkTheWeb guides do not establish a current force-refresh call or parameter.
- Application copy: If your application saves a copy of the image, check whether that file has been replaced or whether the page still points to an older filename.
- Delivery path: If the upstream image is current but visitors still see the old one, check the browser, CDN, or image proxy serving it.
The latter two checks are general cache diagnostics, not documented ShrinkTheWeb-specific behavior.

Check the Drupal module’s thumbnail cache
The Drupal 7 and Drupal 8 setup and usage pages for ShrinkTheWeb Screenshot Thumbnails, both last updated 4 March 2019, document a thumbnail folder setting and a setting for how many days cached images remain unchanged. If your site uses this integration, inspect those settings first. The exact UI path can vary by Drupal and module version, so use the configuration page provided by the version installed on your site rather than assuming a current menu label.

Refresh the module cache only if your installed release supports it
The Drupal.org project page records a historical “Refresh ALL” feature. Check that the installed release actually includes the feature and confirm what it refreshes before using it. The project page also said the Drupal project appeared unsupported as of 31 January 2022; that warning concerns the Drupal project and does not establish whether the ShrinkTheWeb screenshot service itself is available.
Confirm whether the upstream capture changed
Compare the image returned by ShrinkTheWeb with the image shown by Drupal or your application. If the account’s current documentation provides a way to obtain a new capture, use that documented method and compare the result before changing downstream caches. The available ShrinkTheWeb guides describe capture parameters and local cache settings, but do not substantiate a current upstream force-refresh endpoint or parameter.

Do not borrow parameter names such as fresh or a TTL option from another provider. A parameter documented by a competitor is not evidence that ShrinkTheWeb accepts it.

If you have confirmed that the upstream image is current, trace the file your page actually serves. Verify the stored image, its path or URL, and any cache rules applied by your application or delivery stack. If the file changed but the displayed image did not, test the image URL through the same browser or proxy path that shows the stale result, then inspect that layer’s cache behavior.

Other providers illustrate why these checks matter, but their behavior should not be attributed to ShrinkTheWeb: ScreenshotOne says fetching its cache URL does not regenerate a capture, while ScreenshotEngine documents delays from browser or CDN caching. These are provider-specific examples, not instructions for ShrinkTheWeb.
