Start with your phone’s real net value
Identify the exact model and storage capacity, then note its condition, battery state, repair history, carrier-lock status, and included accessories. Get current estimates for that specific configuration in your country. A search result or quote for a different model is not an appraisal, and no dependable single price applies to all OnePlus phones.

Compare what you would actually receive, not just the first number displayed. For a private sale, subtract marketplace fees, shipping, and any repair or preparation costs from the expected sale price. For a trade-in, check eligibility, shipping, inspection terms, deadlines, and whether the payment is cash or restricted credit.

OnePlus says its official trade-in partner determines the market value for eligible devices. Its US FAQ also says a customer may reject a revised offer within seven days and have the device returned at no extra cost; not responding can count as acceptance. Read the live terms before sending the phone, since program rules may change.
What does OnePlus’s 2% statement mean?
OnePlus’s undated US trade-in terms say a device’s trade-in value “may decrease approximately 2% each week” as it ages. The company attributes changes to marketplace demand, device inventory, seasonal inventory sell-offs, and overall age. This is an approximate statement about its US trade-in program—not a guaranteed weekly reduction for your model, a price forecast, or evidence that private-sale prices fall at the same rate. Should support concerns change your decision?
Check support information for your specific model and country rather than assuming support has ended for every OnePlus phone. OnePlus’s US business-adjustment notice says existing devices will continue receiving software updates, security patches, and after-sales support. - Record the details. Confirm model, storage, condition, battery state, repair history, carrier lock, and included items.
- Get local offers. Check a private-sale route and relevant official or retailer trade-in routes available in your country. Use quotes for your exact phone.
- Calculate usable proceeds. Subtract private-sale fees and costs. For trade-in, account for coupon restrictions, eligibility, inspection, shipping, deadlines, and whether the credit works for a purchase you actually plan to make.
- Compare selling with keeping. Sell when the net offer is worthwhile to you and the replacement justifies its cost. Keep the phone if it still meets your needs and the available offer is poor.
- Prepare it safely if shipping. Back up and erase personal data, remove accounts and activation locks, and remove SIM and memory cards. Bottom line
Use actual, local offers—not a generic depreciation rule or regional headline—to decide. Compare the trade-in’s usable value with your private-sale proceeds and the value of continuing to use the phone. If you are considering a trade-in, read its current terms before committing the device.
