Neither setting is objectively more precise for everyone, and the official documentation does not claim otherwise.
What the setting does
Microsoft’s support page for mouse settings describes the feature’s intended effect as making the pointer more accurate when the mouse is moving slowly, and it directs Windows 11 users to turn it on in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse (Microsoft Support: Change mouse settings).
A monitor manufacturer’s software manual from AOC offers a complementary description. It says the checkbox lets Windows “provide additional acceleration for rapid mouse movement” (AOC monitor software manual). Read together, the two descriptions mean the option changes how pointer distance responds to how fast the mouse moves, rather than how the mouse sensor itself works.
The name is easy to misread as a hardware resolution or DPI control. It is a Windows pointer-behavior option. Changing it does not alter the mouse’s sensor settings.

Enable or disable: how to decide
Neither source offers a controlled comparison, so the decision comes down to which behavior suits your use. The table below lays out the three questions that matter most. Where the documentation gives no measured result, the cell says so.

Because the trade-offs are subjective, test the setting in the activities you actually care about, such as document editing, browsing, drawing, or the games you play, for a few sessions before deciding. Note how well slow, precise movements land and whether you keep overshooting or undershooting targets.

Turn it on or off in Windows 11
Microsoft’s current instructions place the toggle on the Mouse settings page:
- Open Settings and go to Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Mouse.
- Switch Enhance pointer precision on or off.
To use the older dialog, select Additional mouse settings from the Mouse page, open the Pointer Options tab, and tick or clear the Enhance pointer precision checkbox under the Motion heading. Changes take effect after you click OK or Apply. Microsoft notes that menu labels and placement can change between Windows releases, so if your build looks different, follow the current Microsoft support page rather than these exact positions.

If the pointer is simply too fast or too slow
If the problem is overall speed rather than how the pointer accelerates, adjust the pointer-speed slider instead. Microsoft documents it as a separate control on the Mouse page, so you can change overall speed without changing the precision setting. Make one change at a time, so you can tell which adjustment helped.

- Choose on if you prefer the slow-movement behavior Microsoft describes or find acceleration helpful during fine positioning.
- Choose off if you want consistent hand-to-cursor distance and find acceleration distracting.
- Use the pointer-speed slider for overall sensitivity, and treat the precision toggle as a feel preference.
There is no published accuracy percentage or performance benchmark for either setting in the official material, so any claim that one setting makes you more accurate should be tested on your own hardware and tasks.
