The Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 is worth considering if you want headphones that leave your ear canals open and stay in place for workouts. Its dual-driver design aims to add bass to bone-conduction audio, but it does not block outside noise, can leak sound at higher volumes, and has drawn mixed sound-quality assessments from reviewers. Its strongest case is sports use where awareness and a secure fit matter more than isolation or conventional headphone sound.
What the OpenRun Pro 2 is—and how its sound works
Shokz describes the OpenRun Pro 2 as using DualPitch: a bone-conduction driver for mids and highs alongside a separate air-conduction speaker for bass. That is the manufacturer’s account of the design, not a guarantee of how it will sound to every listener. Shokz lists four preset EQ modes and two customizable modes. See Shokz’s product details.

Because the ear canals remain open, the headphones do not provide the passive isolation of in-ear or closed-back designs. RTINGS likewise found no noise isolation and reported that nearby people could hear audio at elevated volume. This can suit outdoor activity, where hearing some surroundings is useful, but it is a drawback on public transport, in noisy places, or wherever you want to shut out sound. Keep the volume considerate in shared spaces. RTINGS’ review, updated June 23, 2026, describes its test observations.

Fit and comfort
RTINGS describes the headset as comfortable and stable. The Independent’s reviewer also reported that its sample stayed put during a movement test, while criticizing its sound quality. These are individual review findings, not a fit guarantee: head shape and workout movement differ. Shokz lists standard and mini sizes, so check the size options and return terms for the specific regional listing before buying.

Sound and calls
Sound quality is the main point of disagreement in the available reviews. The Independent reviewer was disappointed by the sound, while Shokz’s DualPitch system is designed to give bass a separate air-conduction driver. SoundGuys tested the headset for one week with app version 4.1.5 and firmware R_09_20240808; it reported improved battery duration over the predecessor but criticized voice clarity in windy conditions. Those observations reflect that review’s test and software versions, which may not match later updates. Read SoundGuys’ review.
For music or podcasts during a run, the open fit may be a better match than it is for focused listening in a noisy environment. If clear calls in wind or immersive, isolated sound are priorities, the evidence here does not establish the OpenRun Pro 2 as a strong fit for those needs.

Battery, charging, and specifications
The following are Shokz’s published UK specifications, accessed in 2026. They are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements; battery life depends on volume and use. Regional listings or product versions may differ. Check the UK specifications.

What IP55 does—and does not—mean
IP55 is not a swimming, showering, or sauna rating. Shokz specifically says not to use the headphones in seawater, saunas, or showers; water can clog the speaker mesh or enter through seams. Treat the rating as limited protection, not permission for immersion or prolonged water exposure. Shokz’s support page explains the restrictions.
OpenRun Pro 2 vs. OpenRun Pro and OpenRun
The clearest documented changes from OpenRun Pro are the Pro 2’s DualPitch arrangement, EQ options, and USB-C charging, according to Shokz’s FAQ. Shokz’s comparison page lists the Pro 2 at up to 12 hours, a one-hour charge, IP55, and 30.3 g. The earlier models’ exact specifications can depend on model and regional version; verify those details on the relevant listing rather than assuming they are identical.
