Shokz OpenRun is a lightweight, open-ear sports headset that uses bone-conduction transducers and leaves the ear canals uncovered. Shokz lists approximately 26 g of weight, up to 8 hours of battery life, quick charging and an IP67 rating. The key caveat: Shokz says it is “Not for swimming.” These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.
What the OpenRun is—and how it works
OpenRun uses Shokz’s 8th Generation bone-conduction technology and PremiumPitch 2.0+. Its transducers rest near the ears and deliver sound through bone conduction, rather than sealing the ear canals with conventional in-ear tips. That open-ear design may suit runners and people who prefer not to wear earbuds inside their ears.

Battery life and charging: what the numbers mean
Shokz rates OpenRun for up to 8 hours of battery life and says a 10-minute charge can provide up to 1.5 hours of use. “Up to” describes the manufacturer’s rated maximum, not a guarantee for every listening session. The available manufacturer information does not establish independently tested runtime, so factors such as volume and usage should not be folded into a more specific real-world estimate.
Can you swim with Shokz OpenRun?
No. Although OpenRun has an IP67 listing and is intended for workouts involving sweat or wet weather, Shokz explicitly marks it “Not for swimming” on its Canadian product page. Do not interpret the water rating as approval for underwater listening.

OpenRun or OpenRun Mini? Choose by head measurement
Shokz Asia’s fit guide recommends the standard OpenRun for a head measurement greater than 9.25 inches (23.49 cm), and OpenRun Mini for a measurement of 9.25 inches or less. Measure before ordering and check that the size you want is available in your region. The threshold is a manufacturer recommendation, not an independent fit test.

- It may suit you if you want a lightweight, open-ear headset for running or workouts and the listed battery and water-use limits fit your routine.
- Look elsewhere if you need headphones approved for swimming, prefer a sealed in-ear fit, or require independently verified runtime or performance data.
