The Shokz OpenRun Air 2 is a lightweight, open-ear bone-conduction headset aimed at exercise. Shokz claims up to 10 hours of playback per charge and lists an IP67 rating, but explicitly says not to use it for swimming or underwater activities. A review by RTINGS describes a secure, comfortable fit for sports while noting sound leakage, little noise isolation, and possible discomfort from vibration.

What the OpenRun Air 2 is—and what it is not

The Air 2 uses bone-conduction drivers and sits outside the ear canal, leaving the ears open. That can suit workouts where you want to remain aware of surrounding sound, but it is not a substitute for noise-isolating headphones. RTINGS reports that the open design provides almost no noise isolation and allows sound to leak; people nearby may hear some audio, particularly at higher volumes. RTINGS’ review

Open ears do not guarantee awareness in every environment: traffic, machinery, and other loud sounds can still mask what you hear. Choose a listening level and location appropriate to the activity rather than treating the design as a safety feature.

How it fits during exercise

RTINGS describes the headset as stable and comfortable during sports, including intense activity. The band does not fold, however, and the review notes that the package lacks a carrying case, so it may take more room in a gym bag than a folding headset.

Shokz lists Standard and Mini size options. RTINGS also lists Black and Ice Blue colors, though sizes and colors can vary by market and availability. Check the fit and return terms with the seller before choosing a size. Shokz says the Air 2 is 26.4 g and more than 9% smaller than the original OpenRun; those are manufacturer-published specifications and comparison claims. Shokz product page

Bone conduction transmits sound through vibration at the temples. RTINGS warns that the sensation may be uncomfortable for some listeners, so a stable fit alone does not establish that the headset will feel good to everyone.

Battery life and charging: a claim with a review-page discrepancy

Shokz specifies up to 10 hours of battery life per charge and says five minutes of charging can provide up to two hours of playback. These are manufacturer claims, not independently verified runtime results in the sources cited here. Shokz product page

There is a material conflict: RTINGS’ review page displays 18 hours in several places, rather than Shokz’s current 10-hour specification. The available pages do not establish an independently verified runtime that resolves the discrepancy. Treat 10 hours as the manufacturer’s stated figure and confirm the current listing if battery life is decisive. RTINGS’ review

No. Shokz lists an IP67 water-resistance rating but expressly states: “OpenRun Air 2 should not be worn while swimming or engaging in underwater activities.” Water resistance does not mean the headset is intended for swimming. Shokz product page

RTINGS says its test rig cannot collect sound-test results for bone-conduction drivers. Its review therefore does not amount to a lab validation of Shokz’s sound-quality claims. The same review reports SBC Bluetooth codec support and no wired connection. RTINGS’ review

Is the Shokz OpenRun Air 2 worth considering?

It is most relevant if you want an open-ear sports headset, value a secure fit, and are comfortable with the sensation of bone-conduction vibration. Its main compromises are little isolation, sound leakage, a non-folding frame, and the possibility that vibration will not suit you. If you need quiet listening, privacy, a compact foldaway design, or an independently established battery figure, the evidence here does not make the Air 2 an obvious fit.

Shokz’s US product page showed $129.95 when indexed, and What Hi-Fi? reported a US launch price of $130 in August 2026.
