To share Wi-Fi by QR code, open the saved network’s sharing option on your phone and let your guest scan the code. On Android, use Settings > Network & internet > Internet, select the connected network, then tap Share. On iPhone, open the network details and tap Show Network QR Code. Menu labels can vary by phone and software version. [Google Android Help · Apple iPhone User Guide]
Share a saved Wi-Fi network from Android
- Open Settings.
- Tap Network & internet > Internet.
- Select the Wi-Fi network you want to share. It should be the network your phone is connected to.
- Tap Share. If prompted, verify your identity using the phone’s screen-lock method.
- Have the other person scan the displayed QR code with a compatible phone or camera flow.
Google notes that some steps apply only to Android 12 and later, and manufacturers can change the menu layout. If you do not see these exact labels, look in your phone’s Wi-Fi or network settings for the selected network’s share option. Google’s Android instructions describe the built-in flow.

Show a Wi-Fi QR code on iPhone
- Open the saved Wi-Fi network’s details in Settings.
- Tap Show Network QR Code.
- Ask the recipient to scan the code to join.
Apple’s iPhone guide also explains how to view saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords in the Passwords app. The QR display option is useful when the other person needs to scan a code rather than receive Apple’s separate nearby-device sharing prompt. See Apple’s iPhone User Guide.

Apple also supports sending a Wi-Fi password directly between nearby Apple devices. That is not the same as displaying a QR code, and it has setup requirements. Both people need compatible current software, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled, Apple Accounts signed in, and each other’s Apple Account email address or phone number saved in Contacts. The devices must be nearby; Personal Hotspot should be off. The sharing iPhone must be unlocked and connected to the network. If the prompt does not appear, Apple suggests restarting both devices, then entering the password manually if needed. Apple’s password-sharing support page has the full requirements.

Samsung hotspot QR codes are a separate case
Samsung documents a QR option for sharing a Galaxy Z Fold6’s mobile hotspot at Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering > Mobile Hotspot. This shares the phone’s hotspot, not necessarily a saved home Wi-Fi network, and the documented path is specific to the cited EU/UK Z Fold6 manual—not a universal Samsung menu. What to do if the QR code does not connect
- Check the network: make sure the code is for the Wi-Fi network you intend to share.
- Check whether the credentials are current: if the network password has changed, an old code may no longer work. Display a fresh code from the phone’s current network details.
- Look for a different menu on Android: steps and labels vary by manufacturer and software version; Google says some steps require Android 12 or later.
- Try Apple’s direct sharing only if appropriate: confirm the device, account, contact, proximity, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth requirements above. Restart both devices if the prompt still fails; manual password entry is the fallback Apple recommends.
Camera and scanning behavior can differ across devices, so a QR code that displays correctly is not a guarantee that every recipient’s phone will recognize it.

Protect your main network when sharing with guests
A QR code grants access to the network it represents. If your router offers a guest network, share that code with visitors instead of displaying your household or workplace network credentials. For workplaces, UK government guidance advises keeping public-facing Wi-Fi separate from internal or privileged networks and not placing workplace SSID or password signage where it is visible in public areas. For Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi, the Google Home app can copy or send network credentials through another app, and it can use a separate guest-network password. That is an alternative sharing workflow; Google’s page does not describe it as QR sharing. Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi instructions.
