There is no documented safety winner between Shapezo and Meshy. Meshy publishes far more specific statements about training, ownership, and retention, but those statements do not match each other in scope. Shapezo’s public terms give a general security commitment and leave training, output rights, and retention unaddressed, and the privacy policy they link to could not be accessed when checked on October 7, 2026. For confidential client files, unreleased designs, or sensitive site data, the safer choice is the one your plan and signed agreement actually provide, confirmed before anything is uploaded.
What each product does
Shapezo converts a selected map area into an editable 3D site model that includes buildings, terrain, water, and vegetation. Its product page, checked October 7, 2026, says users can inspect and adjust layers, edit individual buildings, and export to Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine, Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, ArcGIS Pro, and GISBox. These are the vendor’s own descriptions of its workflow, not results from independent testing.

Meshy describes itself as an AI creative platform for 3D modeling, texturing, and animation. Its Terms also cover its API, a gallery and community, and plug-ins. The two services overlap in 3D production but start from different inputs: Shapezo builds a site model from a real map area, while Meshy generates and textures assets from prompts and uploaded images. They are not feature-for-feature substitutes, so a safety comparison should start from the job each tool performs in your workflow.

Training on your uploads
Meshy’s Terms and its FAQ say different things
Meshy’s Terms, last updated September 19, 2026, say Meshy may use Customer Inputs and Customer Outputs from non-Enterprise customers to train, validate, test, or improve its services, unless an Order agreed with the customer provides otherwise. Enterprise customer data is excluded from that permission.
Meshy’s Safety & Trust FAQ, published August 27, 2026, takes a narrower line on uploads. It states: “We do not currently use any user-uploaded images for training purposes.” The same FAQ says non-Enterprise data may be used in anonymized form for future training, and that Enterprise data is excluded.
The FAQ’s image statement describes current practice, while the FAQ’s anonymized-data statement describes future use. The Terms set the contractual permission, and that permission covers inputs and outputs, not only images. The Terms are also the later of the two documents. A reader with a confidentiality obligation should not rely on the FAQ alone. If the distinction matters to the project, ask for the signed Order or a written commitment that addresses it.

Shapezo’s Terms do not set a training rule
Shapezo’s Terms, effective August 1, 2026, define User Content broadly to include data, images, models, files, prompts, text, and other materials uploaded, created, submitted, or processed through the services. Users must have a lawful source and the necessary rights for that content, and the Terms prohibit material that infringes rights or violates privacy. The Terms do not state whether User Content may be used to train or improve models. The Privacy Policy that would normally address that question is linked from the Terms but was not accessible when checked, so this article cannot describe how Shapezo uses uploaded content.
Who owns the output and what you can do with it
Meshy: free, paid, and community use are treated differently
Meshy’s Terms draw three distinctions. On the free plan, Meshy owns Customer Output and makes it available to the user under CC BY 4.0, which requires appropriate credit. On paid plans, customers may keep User Content private and, to the extent applicable law allows, own their Customer Output. Publishing to Meshy Community applies separate public licenses, as described in the table above, and grants Meshy the broad license noted there.
A paid plan does not remove the other obligations in the Terms. Users are responsible for holding rights to their inputs and for any permissions those inputs require, so a copyrighted reference image or texture carries the same obligation whatever the plan.

Shapezo: rights to generated models are not stated
The Terms do not say who owns models generated in Shapezo, which commercial-use license applies, or whether either answer changes by plan. Being able to export or edit a model does not establish ownership. For client deliverables, get the rights in the service-specific terms or a written agreement before the model leaves the platform.

What Meshy’s Privacy Policy covers
Meshy’s Privacy Policy, last revised September 19, 2026, says it collects submitted content such as text and image prompts, models, and related texture images, together with account, device, and usage information. It describes disclosures to hosting and IT providers, advertising providers, partners, other users of public services when a user publishes content there, and authorities in specified circumstances. Meshy says it uses access controls and encryption, among other measures, and also states that no internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure. Retention depends on the purpose, legal requirements, account type, service, and configured settings, so the policy does not give one retention period.
Deletion, storage, and backup rules
Meshy’s Terms state that API Customer Output, except Enterprise output, is deleted three days after generation. That period applies to the API only. For the webapp, Meshy may enforce storage limits and may remove output associated with an inactive account, and the Terms make the user responsible for backing up any output they want to keep. The FAQ adds that storage is with AWS in the United States.

The FAQ also states that Meshy maintains ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and SOC 2 certifications. These are vendor statements. They should not be read as an independent audit, or as evidence that Meshy’s controls are stronger than those of any other service.
Shapezo’s security commitment and the missing privacy policy
Shapezo’s Terms identify Wings Digital Technology (HK) Co., Limited as the contracting company. Section 10.4 states: “Shapezo uses reasonable security technologies and procedures to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.” That is a general commitment, not a description of specific controls. Account credentials are the user’s responsibility. Users should contact support about suspected unauthorized access and may not share accounts or interfere with security controls, and Shapezo may suspend an account that poses a security risk.
Because the Privacy Policy linked from the Terms could not be accessed when checked, this article cannot describe how Shapezo collects, retains, or transfers personal data across borders, or whether it uses uploads for training. A team handling personal data should treat that gap as unresolved rather than as a clean result.

Pipeline and recovery risks
Shapezo’s stated strength is editable output. Layers can be inspected and adjusted, and individual buildings can be edited before export. That suits teams who need to refine generated site context inside an existing modeling, BIM, GIS, or game-engine environment. The product page also says supported output formats vary by workflow and integration, so the list of target applications is not a promise that every layer, scale, georeference, or metadata field will arrive intact. Test a representative file in your target application before committing a project to the workflow.
For Meshy, the more immediate operational risk is losing output, given the deletion and storage rules above. Anything you need later should be exported and kept in storage you control, such as a separate drive or company storage. Keep public sharing separate from production files, because anything published to Meshy Community falls under the public licenses described earlier.
Quick Recap
Before you upload: a six-step check
- Classify the input. If the project includes unreleased designs, client files, personal information, or sensitive site data, treat it as confidential and complete the remaining steps before uploading.
- Confirm the training position in writing. For Meshy, find the signed Order for your account and check whether it changes the Terms’ non-Enterprise permission. For Shapezo, request a written statement on training.
- Confirm output rights for your plan. Check ownership, commercial use, attribution, and reference-image rights for the plan you are on. For Shapezo, obtain the rights terms in writing.
- Keep proprietary assets out of community publishing. Publishing to Meshy Community triggers public licenses and a broad license to Meshy; do not publish any asset whose downstream rights you have not cleared.
- Identify which storage rule applies. Determine whether each file is API or webapp output, then export anything you need to keep to storage you control, mindful of the API window described above.
- Test interoperability with one representative file. Export to your target application and confirm that layers, scale, georeferencing, and metadata survive the transfer.
What this comparison does not establish
- It compares published documents. It is not a security audit, legal opinion, benchmark, or hands-on test of either product.
- No independent statistics on comparative security, privacy incidents, or model quality were found, so this article makes no claim about which service is more secure in practice.
- Plan quotas and prices change and are outside this safety comparison; check the current plan page before relying on any limit.
- Terms and policies change. Confirm that you are reading the current version of each document before you upload.
